1.4 MPI - dead shock absorber?

Featured Replies

Hi.

Yesterday I had a little trip over bumpy gravel roads and heard a very strange clobbing noise from front right side. Today I tested it a bit more and had a second opinion and he also thinks that the shock absorber has cancelled the contract...

But it's just so unrealistic. The car has had no abuse/crashes/potholes/you name it. It's still on 30k miles, bought in 2002 and 20k miles have been driven granny-style.

So, I guess it's just the age, right?

Now I need some advice on which shocks to get. I assume it makes sense to change both front shocks, right? I have the necessary equipment to change shocks so it's no problem doing it myself. I need some cheap ones ( credit munch ) but I don't want crap.

Btw, could the broken shock fudge up anything else? I mean, is it very dangerous to drive around with one broken shock? MOT failure? Thanks for help.

A broken shock would make the ride dangerous, the different dampening levels across the axle could probably throw the car out of balance.

Right. But the car doesn't feel any different at all... I'll go and get some professional help tomorrow :)

Are you sure its not a tie rod thats worn out....from the anti roll bar to the suspension strut?

These knock when worn.
