Changing cars mid way through a lease....

Featured Replies

.... is it possible? I currently have the Leon with about 20 months left to run on the lease, thing is i'm quite taken with the Exeo now i've seen specs and prices. The Leon is leased through a Seat dealer, what's the chances of say when I have 12 months left to run on the lease I can swap it for an Exeo Tourer?

He gets a newer, lower mileage car to sell on, he 'sells' a new car and locks me in for a further three years, it looks like a no brainer to me but i'm not sure the dealer will see it like that. I might tell him if he doesn't do a deal i'm getting a Superb when i'm due for renewal :)

Anyone ever done this?

You could hand it back now if it's worth less than the cost of the remaining lease payments, or in this case talk nice to the dealer, but make it clear you know that you can possibly return it.

If its a PCP agreement, then you will be breaking it in returning/changing the car. You can end it, but they may well be within rights to require you to make all the remaining payments in one hit. The agreement is like a mobile phone contract, if you terminate early then there are large fees and penalties involved.

Sorry, should have made it clear it's a business lease company car, not a lease purchase private jobby.

The likely hood will be no, without penalty.

You'd need to study the agreement docs carefully. The HP notion of handing a car back when 1/2 payments have been made doesnt apply to leasing.
