Re the car psu bit, the cases ffelan has come with a 12v onboard supply, that is a nie 12v socket on the back. I used an invertor for the transformer before rewiring the case to take a more secure plug/socket direct from the battery (+ ITPS for spike protection)

Not sure if Paul has the ITPS units, I'll find out though, I know who does.

I will take pics but I have a boot full of holiday junk still...

Ok chaps, i'm going to knock up a offer on all itx / incar equipment and place it the RAPID section.

Give me 5 min's and i'll give u all the options

 or is that a :thumbdwn: as it may involve me spending money.

The general idea for Mini ITX is correct - although another' date=' possibly more expensive, yet cooler and much much smaller option is JREX from [url']http://www.dpie.co.uk/[/url]. They are 3.5" (same footprint as a standard disc drive) motherboards with complete solution chipsets on them. The power supply will work out slightly bigger (see my email).

Well, out of curiosity I contacted DPIE to get an idea of prices...bearing in mind these are for guide only, and that typically they spec and price to order:

JRex GX1 from

thats a pretty decent price for the technology involved. Should just about fit in our car ;) I ended up buying a 20 gig mp3 for 150 quids from novatech. very good qalitah must say

Someone had to bring some humour to the thread, so here it is:

http://www.mujmac.cz/art/hw/tatra_mac_eng.html

A young man has put together a Mac-based in-car computer system in a strange european monster called a "Tantra T613" (no doubt a distant relative of Skoda). It's a nice setup actually, and I believe it's got GPS etc.

:D

that is a pretty nice looking interface - typically mac!! I love the diagnostics of the car too like mpg and driving hours per litre etc. That would look pretty damn cool on any car. The interior is nice in the car too - very uniform and structured - none of this modern f0rd-style randomness.

The only problem with this is Macs are expensive and difficult to program for.
