new vrs owner

Featured Replies

Hi everybody

i've got a fabia vrs 54 plate with 34k on the clock witch i got in oct of last year it has been remaped to aprox 170 bhp according to the previus owner. i want to know if it is worth fitting a ibiza pd 160 cold air intake and wot sort of clutch to fit as mine is slipping slightley when booting it at aprox 2500 rpm in 5th and 6th

Firstly, welcome to the club. . .

The PD160 intake will give alittle more air to the engine, and since it costs little i would recomend. Seat have it on their Ibiza which puts out about the same power, so if they think it needs a bigger intake then it probably does.

Clutch wise, Helix is good if your thinking of upping the power even more, due to its higher clamping load. Sachs is also good and will stop the slipping but doesn't have as high a clamping load as the Helix. (Sachs Performance Clutch Kit & Jabba Flywheel (6SPD 02M PD TDI))

Im runing about 170-180bhp with standard clutch and as a rule, i never full throttle below 3000 rpm, and would only full throttle in 3rd or 4th, 5th and 6th just slip, and 1st and 2nd just spins the wheels.

I wouldnt say the PD160 intake costs a little - only if you manage to pick it up second hand from someone putting his/her car back to standard ;)

Sachs is absolutely fine up to pretty high numbers, and very OEM feel to it. I have not driven a vRS with Helix but they work well as well :)

You have to be pushing the hybrid turbo plus have larger injectors or possibly a well set up WI system to push the Sachs to the limit though, so it all depends on price I guess.

vrsmeansyellow is spot on with the comments on how to treat the different gears, although I dont get clutch slip in any of the gears :)

PD160 air intake causes less smoke while accelerating. My car has a standard clutch & would agree on the above comments.
