Body mods. Opinions please?

Featured Replies

We've worked out the finances and the earliest I'll even be considering selling the Octy is 2015!!! That probably means I'll mod it and keep it till it dies as it won't be worth much by then I wouldn't have thought. Due to this there is likely to be a big turbo going in at some point and therefore a front mount intercooler installing. As a result I've begun thinking about how to change the front end to suit it.

Oh how I wish that I still had Photoshop! Forgive the crudeness of the pic but I was working in Paint!!! You can get the idea anyway.

Basically involves:

Remove black bump strips.

Fill, smooth and spray the gaps they leave.

Fill out the gap where the number plate was and (probably with a square number plate) move it to the nearside.

Any opinions on why it wouldn't work or easier/cheaper ways to do it then feel free to shoot me down in flames! This is a first draft and definitely subject to change. I'd be particularly interested to hear from anyone who's done a similar mod previously.

And no my sister-in-law couldn't afford a better wedding car!!!

Whats wrong with a Skoda for a wedding car??? I used mine, for my own wedding:D Did the job, saved us a packet & really did look good.

As for the bump strips, If your refering to the ones in the bumpers, filling the gaps in might cause some problems if you need to remove the bumper as the fixing bolts are underneath, just get them colour coded. As for the side ones are just stuck on & won't leave any holes to fill.

Definately nowt wrong with a Skoda wedding car.

ive been debating doing something with my bump strips for a while now. Like oggy said, the sides are stuck on and shud be easy to remove, but ive tried accessing the rear of the front and back strips with no luck. My plan was to remove them all and get some new ones painted up and put them on but seems like a lot of hassle. So for me, option 1 is to just colour code the side strips, option 2 is to buy those stainless steel strips from superskoda and affix above the side strips, and option 3 was just to leave it all alone.

Its not really alot of hassle. I got mine colour coded. I got my original bumper bump strips painted & I bought & painted new door strips, which I would recomend anyway as you'll probably warp/stretch them on removal.

To me I think it has really transformed the look of the car alot, for the better.

Did somebody else paint the front and rear strips? Were they removed or painted whilst on the car? I cant see how you'd remove the rear strips on my mk 2, thats what i thought would be hassle

Aaah sorry, I didn't realise you had the mk2:doh: Ignore me:ignore:

I did consider smoothing out the bumper strips some time ago but put it on hold but rear would be easier as the bolts go from inside the boot into the bumper but on the front you remove the strip to get access to the bolts, what i was going to do is to try and change the front bumper mounts by welding nuts to the metal plates behind the bumper strip and bolt it from the back, but if you do it then put pics up as i'd be interested to see how it looks as i've just got the wifes arosa bumpers back from been smoothed and they look great :D
