Aghhh - Help please on a Fabia with NO power

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

(Re-mapped Fab VRS, 53 reg with 45k)

Left work this evening and sat in snowy traffic for an hour (wheels spinning etc.).

Finally got on to the motorway, went to accelerate and nothing. It really struggled to accelerate at any speed.

Came off the motorway and there is nothing in any gear. 0 - 30 takes about 20 seconds!! Certainly no turbo.

Stopped to get some petrol and have a poke around in the engine but found nothing wrong. Started it up and pulled out and again no acceleration and a new high pitch rapid ticking noise from the near side front which disappeared when over about 3k revs?? Then the management light came on.

Any ideas??

Cheers.

Could be your boost pipe has popped off at the bottom of the intercooler at near side front. Don't know if you can get access to it without taking the protective tray off first. Otherwise check the remaining pipe-work coming out of the top of the intercooler (behind nearside headlamp) which connects to the EGR valve near the bulk head.

This would be my first port of call...

Probably a boost pipe plopped off, but worth a check :)

I agree with the two guys, boost pipe. They are notorious for coming off. You just sure you havent just hit the ice with the ASR turned off coming up the sliproad???? :D

Let us know how you get on.

Stopped to get some petrol...

This could be a factor. ;)

Right, the AA man is here as I started the car up this morning and it cut out.

He can't see that any pipes have popped off anywhere. The fault code is that it lost boost.

Spose to be off to see Reading beat Preston in a bit!!!!! Dammnnnnnn!!!!!! :thumbdwn:

Fingers crossed.

Definately put diesel in. the AA man said the same thing cheeky fecker :D

I had a similar problem with my car on Thursday evening. The boost was working intermittently. The RAC plugged their computer in and said it may be a faulty throttle body sensor. Skoda garage couldn't find anything wrong anywhere even though they had found the loss of power too. They suggested it may have been the MAF as they disconnected it and the car was running fine. Am collecting the car later, will see what happens......

Sure, sure, we believe you.

Good luck in getting to the bottom of it, though.

Tsk, counting the points before you got em...? Your absence probably halved the attendance if their support was anything like it was when we played em last week. The only downside is that you didn't get the chance to see the world's fattest footballer miss some sitters for Preston.

Sorry, that wasn't much help I guess

Made it to the game. Saw what has to be THE fattest footballer I've ever seen. Looks like he's come straight from the pub's smoker's 11. Preston parked the proverbial bus and Reading were awful AGAIN. :thumbdwn:

Didn't make it in the car unfortunately. I've got to get the AA out to take it to the local Skoda garage tomorrow.

I have a horrible feeling it's going to be expensive :thumbdwn:

Righto, it's been to the garage and apparently (apart from water in the wiring loom!) the MAF - I presume - (although I thought he said MAL filter???) sensor was knackered. £385 lighter and the little VRS is flying better than ever.

Cheers for the help guys.

£385 for a new MAF!!!!! Or is this including Skoda messing about with it for a bit?

I paid £40 for a genuine Bosch part from ECP when I wanted a new one......

Gone up to £46 when I last bought one from ECP.

How on earth is it 385 GBP though? That is insanely expensive for just that?

Did you get a full service as well?

Good to hear it is running right again though!

Yeah, mine might have been that. I remember I had to give my old one back too to get it for that price.

£385 :eek::eek:
