Question about drop links.....

Featured Replies

Basically I think my one of my drop links needs replaced.

The thing is I've got FK coilovers on my car which came with drop links, so if they need replaced do I need to get another set of FK or similar ones? Is there a size difference to standard ones?

Hi, I think if i were you I would get mk1 mondeo drop links as they are shorter than std ones and suit coilover fine

Or MK5/6 Escort as I used on Wiebos, pretty cheap. About £10 for the pair rather than the std £20 each.

So can I just get the escort ones for a standard setup (no coilovers etc) or do i have to get the genuine ones, as one of mine is going?

Are these fairly east to replace if you don't have access to a ramp?

Sily question....can these be changed at home? (I'm fairly good on car repairs)

Knocking noise now and again under the left nearside.

When you look at the offside drop link, the ball joints look straight with the bolt, (if you get what I mean...I know they can move about a bit but this looks a bit extream), but the one that's knocking seems to be well offset to the bolt....it's not hanging off but is there an easy way to check these by jacking it up? also there is grease showing around it too?

Cars done 80k so, so probably starting to get to the point of suspension problems...touch wood though, not had anything go wrong until now!

I know these are not expensive, but I just want to check as I don't want to have to take it to the dealers and find that it's something completely different knocking when I could possibly change it myself??

Sorry if it's long winded....:)

Hya - you dont need a ramp to do these, I changed the springs/dampers just using a jack & axle stands, no reason you cant do the same :)

What I was wondering was, if I undo the nut and knock the drop link out, will anything drop or spring out at me? If they just stay where they are I can crack on and do them?

Sorry to hijack this a bit...
