Sub & Amp in Fabia

Featured Replies

How easy is it to remove all the trim bits along side the door so to wire a sub and amp neatly?

Easy, and thats from a non "techie" type person lol. It all just unclips and as long as you take your time, and dont break anything, just clicks back together. The only tricky part is getting it from the bay to the inside, i drilled a hole behind the glovebox.

Can you not run a power cable from inside the car, from the back end of the fuse box? I remember seeing them all when i fitted my CC. Surely the car is pre-wired for things the car doesnt have (heated eats etc.) and you can just tap into that feed...

Just a thought... (and awaits to be be shot down)

The car is not prewired for heated seats, and even if it was, it would not reach to the boot, but to the front seats only.

Also I wouldn't want to run the kind of currents the amp would need through there ;)

On the 'drilling through' front, I'd use the grommet(s) that are there instead, or if you do drill it, just make sure you use a rubber ring to protect the wire(s), as it will wear through and short out.

is there a decent place to use for the earth?

is it advisable to run phonos seperate?

earth it out to the boot catch on the body

Most people run RCA's seperately, if your planning to run your own speaker wire into the doors then thats where the fun begins.

I still maintain that if the car isn't a VRS that grommet doesn't exist! Then you do have to drill.

Fair enough :) - that said, if you drill a hole through, definitely put some rubber over the sharp stuff as the cable will wear through otherwise it will go through in the end.

There generally are a fair few places where the firewall has some grommets though, most were under the scuttle panel, but I cant check at the moment soz.

Mine is a vRS, still had to drill. No room in any of the grommets, well, i got ****ed off and decided to jsu drill. lol

That was a mint guide thanks. I earthed it to rear seat belt mount.

Be very careful when you do the drilling . I once saw a Mechanic drilling a hole to fix a Taxi radio handset bracket ,and it went through into part of the loom, which was on the other side of the firewall! The drill tip welded itself onto a heavy cable which still had 12 v on it. It burnt out all the loom in that area . Worst of all the car's passenger door was tight up against a wall, and he could'nt get out very quickly in an attempt to disconnect the battery terminals!.

Its all good around the glovebox, although you would need to be bloody stupid not to check what was there first.
