vRS drinking fuel.....

Featured Replies

Had my vRS tfsi for just over a month now, still loving it, but I'm a bit concerned with the fuel economy! over 4 tanks of fuel I'm getting about 25 mpg, most of the time its driven very conservatively, with only the odd burst of 'fun'......still thought it would be better than that, any ideas??

What fuel you putting in?

99 Octane....

how many miles on the clock?

Heavy traffic or M-way ????

I struggle to get anything over 30mpg and I try my best to drive econimically. The car has only done 7000 miles, so I'm hoping it will improve with age; what mileage is yours? On a good steady run I can get 40mpg but in my mark 1 Octy I was averaging about 35mpg and once got 48mpg out of it! I was under the impression from the dealer and the brochure that the MkII was better on fuel... sadly not. Perhaps the on board computer in the new Octy is more accurate? Still a great car though!

It's just clocked 37k, so run in!! never heavy traffic, combination of m/way and town.

I would say M-way you should be looking at 30+

Maybe I should have said stop-start rather than heavy traffic, stop start will kill the consumption, I have a mk1 which if I use the residential route (back streets and traffic lights etc) home from work drops too about 17mpg, using the local link road and the M4 I get 35 if I drive miss daisy.

Oh well....such is life, still love it!!

sounds like a good service is needed. Have you checked the air filter and air filter pipe for any blockages? Also run the car quite down and stick a good fresh tank of fuel in it and give it a good hard run for 10 miles to clear the system.

And get the excuses prepared ...Hee hee..."Sorry officer, I was just giving it a good, robust running to clear the fuel system out. Not been getting many miles to the gallon you see. Normally drive like a vicar, but, well, somebody on Briskoda said to give it a damn good thraping and it seemed like good advice and ... ""yes yes sir, now if you'd just come and sit in the back of my car, I'll introduce you to my friends PC Handcuffs and Sergeant Baton..."

I've had my TFSi for 2 months now. I'm on 22k, and on my way to work, which is mostly NSL A roads, I'm lucky to see 30mpg.

Just glad to see I'm not the only one who thought that the fuel economy wasn't great (still loving the car otherwise though)

Motorway at 70mph I can see between 27-40mpg depending on how hilly the country is.

I can get 35-37mpg on single carriageway roads at 60ish even with some vigorous overtaking.

Winter average for me is about 32mpg summer probably 34/35mpg.

25mpg would be pretty low for me. Certainly in town it's about 17mpg but I'll rarely see it below 27mpg on a run of any length unless I've got The Prodigy on the cd player :D

It had the 40k service early, in October, I changed the air filter last week 4 a piperX, was hoping that might make a wee bit of difference.

18k miles and averaging 26.2 mpg 'ish' :P Any wonder its FOR SALE

Permission to use this thread next time there is a Diesel V Petrol vRS debate?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

dont forget urban economy is around 26mpg i drive witha lead foot, and normally hit 24-26 round town and long motorway runs hit 28-32 dependant on driving, but i always 'make progress'

Sounds fairly heavy. Having owned both mk1 and 2 Octavia diesels as taxis, i can certainly vouch for the fact that the mk2's are heavier on fuel. Seems the same for the petrol models.

My MK1 PD100 tdi was terrible on fuel but the MK2 is excellent

I've had my mk2 for almost a year, average fuel consumption is about 4mpg lower than the mk1, both petrol vRS's.

Has the changing of the filter made any difference? if its made it worse then thr car will need 100-300 miles to learn the new air flow. Also after a service from what ive noticed they seem to reset the ecu so it needs to re learn everything and this will give you poor mpg for the first 100 or so miles, but then should sort it self out.

And get the excuses prepared ...Hee hee..."Sorry officer, I was just giving it a good, robust running to clear the fuel system out. Not been getting many miles to the gallon you see. ."

you dont need to drive at 130+ to do this 2nd and third gear hard boots on high revs is generally enough to keep the revs high (and fuel pressure through the system).
