Any ideas?

Featured Replies

My car failed its MOT on EMISSIONS AT IDLE, since then I have had the o2 sensors changed 1 and 2, new ECU and the cat tested for breaking up, nothing has solved it and it still fails on the above issue.

Any ideas? Also for any rozzers is it legal for me to drive to the garage with the car booked in for an MOT?, thus far its been trailerd around but unfortunatly my friend is off on holiday to the ring so I need to get the car to the garage.

cheers

You can only drive to a pre-booked MOT test. The law is very specific about this. You must drive DIRECTLY to the test centre.

Reason i asked is because i thought it was utterly illegal to drive hence the trailor it wasnt until a mate said you can drive it their...

What cat do you have?

Same as you, 100 cel blueflame whole system

Get it their and leave it running so its piping hot, try and leave the aircon on so it has more load on the engine... Can you post up the figures?

Phil (MOT tester)

Do a search for the name 'Christaylor & blueflame' that's all i'm saying.

:iagree: mine only just passes but it has done for the past two yrs. Think they use 200cel ones now.

Next time Ender, sort a place out thats not to fussy with things that don't get passed on to the sheep sha&&er area.

There is too many "jobs worths" out there.

Phil (MOT tester)

Phil the thing its failing on is CO 0.86%VOL

HC 190PPM VOL

that symbol that looks like a tent is 1.688

oil temp 12c

After sensors and ECU and CAT check its

****CO 0.51% its failing here**

HC 33 PPM VOL

TENT THING 1.005

On the original fail before anything it was

CO <0.30% VOL 0.47% VOL>

Now the bloke said its flickering between green and red and erring more onto the green side but he still FAILED it :(

I hope that means somin to you phil!

as said you can drive to an MOT station but you must have an ppointment and you must also drive straight there. but also it has to be as close as practable so you can't book an MOT in scotland when you live in devon :D

Your MOT tester sounds like a pain in the ring piece. You need to find yourself one with a bit of common sense.

My last 2 MOT's showed up zero emissions! Pretty impressive....

Like others have said, you need to get that cat super hot to guarantee a pass. Thrash the nuts off it on the way to the test station! Or at least let it run for 30mins+ before

Sounds like your being milked by the garage.

oil temp 12c <<<<<<< is this correct? engine should be at normal operating temp

I agree. You've obviously got yourself a tester who doesn't like mods. Go elsewhere - it'll be cheaper in the long run...

Isn't 0.86% around 1?

Customs & Excise (VAT) seem to think it is!

The tester is a knob!

The test stations I've seen, always do the rollers after the under car inspection.

The test is logged onto Swansea for about 45min (IIRC), so if the rollers are last you've got no chance of keeping the engine hot!

Testers don't like to burn themselves while the're looking for other things to fail you on!

my test station always does the emissions first, before it even gets to the ramps...

that's why I keep going back there...

I always do emmisions first.... if it fails then you get to check the exhaust etc out....To be honest with those figures and the fact the engine temp only showed 12c your MOT tester is a bit over zelous im afraid.

How far are you from Bicester? nudge nudge wink wink

Good news!!!!

I went back today and said look buddy, I have just thrashed the nuts off it i want it re tested now! by thrashing i mean literaly driving in 1st gear all the way as this is London so what other kind of thrashing is their!, he said you will have to wait so i did and just left it running for an hour, he finaly put it on after 1.5 hours and it passed on a long test yipppeeee!.

Now for those saying my MOT tester is a knob the set of figures above are from JKM in portsmouth the second and 3rd set are from Marlborough main dealers in Hounslow, fortunatly i made a freind with one of the mechanic's so he set everything on the right path for me.

it passed with CO 0.30% VOL, with that in mind i dont know why JKM failed it as it was the same their :(, still its done now.

And i got pulled today on the way to the MOT and officer decided that tailing me into the garage was the best bet!.

PS Does anybody know the part number for the S3 front anti-roll bar that fits the octy as thats an advisery so might aswell upgrade.

cheers
