hi,can anybody tell me how hard it is to remove the alternator on my 2002 1.9d fabia as i need to get it bench tested there is no charge going to the battery and the power steering is not working thanks:thumbup:

Check your wiring first.

have checked the wiring and the thin blue wire on the back of the alternator which goes to the plug on the front of the gearbox and its all fine

Sonds like the DFM wire is broken in front of the gearbox to me.

Have you had the connector apart to check for corrosion?

yes the plug looks fine and the wire which breaks all the time is fine thats why i thought it would be alternator but it looks a bit of a pig to get off :confused:

If your alternator is not charging and you have no power steering then your auxiliary drive belt is broke/gone/slipping. Look at that first.

got the alternator off and removed the plastic cover at the back to find one of the diodes broken looks like something has shorted the other diodes look fine going to see if it can be repaired
