Help Needed With Fabia (Possibly Electrics??)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Ive not long had an 02 Skoda Fabia SDI and have had a few problems with it already.

The main problem is that the power steering does not work at all, but the power steering light isnt on??? Along with this the temp gauge, rev counter and indicator tell tales do not work!

The battery light does not come on when you turn the ignition on and I have read somewhere else that if the battery light does not come on when you turn the ignition on that there is a problem between the alternator and battery (power cable). Could this be what is wrong with it all??

Are they all connected? Any help would be appreciated! Its only done 52,000 miles as well!

Cheers

The alternator sense wire will be corroded at the gearbox plug, hence no charge light with ignition on. This results in poor battery charging, which in turn causes all the other problems you are getting. 10 minute job, and give the battery a load test, and replace if no good, or a full charge if it's ok.

Hi,

I took it to my local skoda garage today and tried to explain what you adivsed. The guy on the desk just said 'all cars are different'!!!

Anyways, they said they would put it on their diagnostic machine an tell me what was wrong. The guy came back and said that the diagnostic machine wont tell them what it wrong because it needs a new dash (which he said would £346 just for the part). He then said that this might not fix the problems but will enable the diagnostic machine to then tell them what is wrong! He said that the something to do with the power steering might need replacing which he said 'is about another £500.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Cheers
