Mayo - Ford Fiesta 1.3

Featured Replies

Hi - my sisters M reg fiesta has a lot of mayo in the oil filler cap  - nothing on the dipstick. She drove 100 miles up here and the mayo was under the cap after all of that. She usually does 4 miles trips at uni so I put it down to this.

It hasn't lost any coolant and there is no deposits on the dipstick. Just wondered if anyone thought contary to my thoughts on this?

Any help appreciated ,

Rich

i wouldnt worry about it, those 1300 crossflow engines always did do that if the car does lots of short journeys, even after 100miles of driving it wont get rid of any emusified oil on the filler cap!!!!

just wipe it clean and carry on driving it, if its not using any coolant or using excessive amounts of oil i wouldnt worry about it.

No, i agree with you its down to her short journeys.

Clean the cap, put it back on and get someone to check the cap after a good run (20 miles +) all should be back to normal*

*This is providing there is no oil in the coolant bottle.

Cheers guys - we have cleaned the mayo - had gone down towards the valves so no hope of getting it out of there without taking the rocker cover off - and I had already change a wheel for her in the dark so that wasn't happening tonight!

I will tell her to keep an eye on it. Cheers Rich

The mayo is caused by condensation in the rocker cover & short journeys can make it worse & some oils tend to sludge more than others.

I have told her to walk more lol! Or use her bike!

Worth getting a new oil filler cap - its got the breather built in and they sludge up like anything - available from Halfords for a couple of quid!

Rocker cover is a doddle on these too, whip it off for a quick clean up :)

Yeah my MkIII 1.1 had the same problem, my brother had it sorted in no time.

Wipe it clean around the oil filler cap area.

Take the cap off and the breather pipe up to the base of the carb (if you have one) and clean it all out with solvents and leave it to dry and the remaining solvent to clear for a good while.

Put it all back and give it a go. If it's an issue, the breather filter is in the filler cap so fit a new one.

Also worth checking hte condition of the rocker cover gasket and changing it is it's damaged as these can let air in/oil out. If it's damaged I'd say pay the few pence extra for the genuine ford one as the aftermarket ones seem not to fit as well as one would hope.

The 1.3 felly engines are prone to condensation in the engine too.

Not a great deal to worry about... I get some from time to time with sort journeys and leaving it stood for a while.

could be a single point injection at that age , but the same thing applies ,

also there is iirc a small pipe in the breather in the air filter box , these block up , its only a 1mm hole, poke that out and make sure the pipe off that breather is clear where it goes onto the manifold

Thanks for all of the replies  I will get her to check the breather hose - though she might not know what she is looking at! lol :D When she is next back from Uni I will clean it and see if it continues - can always get a new cap for it if needed. Thanks again. :)

Aye, on the carb versions that one is a real b**stard as it goes up into a rubber breather by the air filter and gets really really sticky with the oily deposits :(

I never played with an injection fiesta, so can't comment on that model.
