My 01 VRS's list of doom

Featured Replies

Guys,

I feel like I've just been raped! I took my car to the Skoda dealer for a service and for £160 I got an oil change and told that my car has every fault under the sun (Maybe a slight exaggeration)

I took the car for an Annual service as for the last 20,000 miles before I got hold of it I'm not sure it was looked after, It had regular services up until the last 20,000.

Apart from a few minor issues like indicator colours and and insecure battery etc the computer reeled off a long list.

Now, I took the car to a mate of mine who has the diagnostic tools and he said the only issue was a faulty Lambda sensor but the dealer said all this:

Motronic Engine Management system:

1. 16514 P0130 035 - Bank1-probe1 - electrical fault in circuit

2. 16795 P0411 035 - Secondary Air Injection System - Incorrect flow recognized

3. 17608 P1200 035 - Recirculating valve for turbocharger -N249- Mechanical malfunction

4. 17705 P1297 035 - Connection charger-throttle valve - Pressure drop - Sporadic fault

Climatronic

1. 00792 035 - Pressure switch for air conditioner -F129-

2. 01274 037 - Air flow flap positioning motor -V71-

I’m wondering, is the car scrap? It’s done 87,000 but has a full service history with Skoda / VW.

I know Skoda will want an arm and a leg to resolve all the issues, anyone know what all that above means???

I’m not sure what to do. :(

Joe

Sorry to break the bad news to you,but yes it is worthless.

Might be worth a few hundred pound at the most.

Only joking!

If you post your location we may be able to point you in the right direction to get the fault(s) fixed.

Haha!

Nearly made me cry lol - Im in Birmingham mate.

Your mate ain't far off, but you may also have an air leak somewhere, does look too worrying though costwise,

The air con flap one is very common and not worth worrying about if you aircon works ok, I'm not too sure about the switch if I'm honest.

Nice one, I think I'll get the Lambda sensor (£50 from Carspares I was told) fitted and see how it goes.

Strange thing is; The car wasnt ticking over very well at all, shaking like a sh1771ng dog it was, then I took it to the dealer, they cleared the faults and when I pulled up at my first set of lights realized it was idling fine but they never mentioned anything.

could also just be sporadic, was/is the engine management light on? probably worth having a dig around the engine bay for any leaking pipes and scanning it all again in say a months time to see if any have come back? as i had 16795 P0411 035 - Secondary Air Injection System - Incorrect flow recognized about a year ago and never again since whereas i constantly get 17705 which causes my engine management light to come on.

it only seems to come on when ive driven any distance at 50mph as ive done thousands at motorway speeds with no issue but as soon as i travel at 50mph for any distance it comes on!

Yeh I know what you mean about the 50mph thing, Mines the same, seems fine for a couple of weeks then it starts idling badly and the managment light will come on, its not on at the moment, give it a week it will be back.

I had similar fault codes come up and reset mine, 3 of the 4 never came back. AlI I have now is the lambda one, although strange as I replaced both these a few months back.

So you may find if you re checked the faults there may be less.

Even so none of them are serious and can be fixed.

I'm in brum mate.

Have you tried clearing the errors and going on a short drive ?

The errors have stayed clear as far as I know, the cars running great and the management lights stayed off. Im guessing that over a week or 2 with the Lambda sensor playing up the management system gets its knickers in a twist and starts messing with the timing / revs = rough idling

My Lambda sensor (post Cat one) is still coming up as Bank 1 - Probe 2 error but no engine light and running fine. It could be that I have a Full Turbo Back sport system that throws the error up.

Is it telling me the one before my Cat is at fault then?

(Sorry - Stupid question) Ignore me

maybe that an ECU reset to clear the adaptation values could help if the Lambdas have been replaced? also always worth looking at Throttle body clean as a first port of call with running issues (£1.25 for the gasket the last time)

do you get a lot of noise when starting from cold (can sound like exhaust blowing) as this is normally the Secondary air system?

I did initially think that I had cured my problems after I had cleaned the throttle body, re-connected the battery and notcied the management light stayed off and the car was running nicely BUT then, without fail, a week and a half later it was idling badly and the light was back.

And when I start the car (After a coldish night) the car makes a right racket for about 3 minutes, it sounds like a fan catching or something like that, then the tone of the noise drops and drops and then just dissapears. I cant work out what it is.

Secondary Air system..????

Quite correct as they all do it, some worse than others, it also gets worse when the rivets on the secondary air pump wear loose.

Is their nothing that I can do about it? Sounds really horrable

I can't remember the details, but there have been some DIY fixes posted here, so if you search this forum for "secondary air pump", then exclude any results from before my joining date (see left).

I can't find anything about a fix :(

Ive been searching for my problem fixes as well, I really want to know the history on my car, I was talking to my mate who also has an Octavia and after driving mine he's sure its had work done because he rekons it would p155 all over his...

Is their a place I can take it within a few miles off me were I could take it to have it checked over? Like an idependant skoda garage? I would like to have it on a rolling road to see what BHP it kicks out and have it checked over without paying thousands to the Skoda dealer local to me.

Fatty, thats quality!!!

I'll get that done at the weekend hopefully, along with the Lambda sensor
