Wiper Fault

Featured Replies

I've got a 4 month old Fabia Estate. Luckily I was away on holidays during the snow fun but on my return my wipers have a mind of their own. The front wipers will come on at random, either full swing or intermittent, go off, come on, stay on, etc no matter what you do with the control stalk you cant stop them. You can hear the relay clicking away like crazy too. It got too much I had to remove the fuse, not a good idea in Feb I know.

Took it back to the Garage on Wednesday this week, they called to say the diagnosis advised the Wiper Switch was faulty and they had to order a new one as they didnt have stock, not only that but they offered me the car back without window wipers and asked me to rebook it in for next week! After advising them it was illegal to have no working front window wipers on your car, and a bit of persuasion they said they would get the part couriered up and fixed the next day.

Got a call today to advise the part arrived and had been fitted, but had not cured the fault, they now suspect something to do with the rear wipers is causing the problem so they pulled the fuse from that and asked me to pick up my car and rebook for next week when more parts would arrive, again advised I was not driving a car with no wipers unless they were 100% fixed.

Car is still in the garage and they now expect to have it repaired by Tuesday of next week. On top of this they also advised that they had no courtesy car they could give me. I had to walk to the garage (2 miles) with my 7 year old son to collect his seat, and belongings from the car. Thankfully a friend has a spare car they've lent me unti tuesday...

No appologies, attempts to find a replacement car etc by the garage. The garage company also owns the Audi and Seat garages across the road, between the 3 sites you would have thought they could have found spares or tester parts to do some diagnosis with instead of relying on the computer telling them what to replace, and between them they had plenty of cars on the forecourt's probably not going anywhere soon either...

To top it off my salesman is off ill and wont be back for a few weeks. Garage will definately be getting a roasting once this fiasco is over!

Garage is the only Skoda one in Aberdeen unfortunately :)

I wish you luck I have twice sent e mails to the Skoda garage that charged £200 for my one spanner service and to date they have not replied.
