Radiator fans stuck on

Featured Replies

Went out to buy my first vRS today. Found a nice one at a decent price and the dealer was happy to take my old Golf VR6 as a trade-in (bonus).

However, when I had a look at the engine I noticed that the radiator fans seemed to be stuck on. Even when the temp guage was sat at min and the engine was started from stone cold, the fans kicked in as soon as the engine started up.

So, is this a common issue with the vRS or 20v 1.8T lump in general? Is it likley to be a simple temp sensor that has boken or shouId steer clear and wait for another one to come up?

Otherise, the car was quite tidy. So, if anyone can suggest a simple remedy, I might still buy the car. A quick response would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Turn aircon off by pressing the econ button and they should stop.

I thought only one fan ran with the aircon running?

Both mine kick in when I turn on the A/C I presume this is normal as it's always done it.

Might be different between petrol and diesel? I had a feeling that only one fan kicked in for air-con, but I have not looked to be honest :-)
