"Clunk" when staring the TD vRS

Featured Replies

Hello!

When I'm starting the car, it's developed a audible and feel-able clunk as the engine catches and starts.

Any ideas what is could be before I phone the stealers?

Steve

PS Yes, the title is wrong!

Recommend that you read the following thread...

And maybe best to sit down whilst you do so. I think you might be well advised to get it looked at sharpish - there was a rash of these complaints a few months back - engine mounting bolts snapping and causing pretty monumental engine breakdowns. Tell-tale signs included a noticeable "clunk" when starting the engine or changing gears, particularly into 1st or 1st to 2nd.

Do a search along the same lines and you'll see what I mean.

Hopefully yours isn't anything to worry about, but get it checked...

I remember that thread from a while ago!

Thanks goodness mine is a lease car :D

It's going to the dealers on Thursday for a look see.

I envy you - I drive mine in fear that I will hear the dreaded "clunk" and the engine immediately falls out of the cars nose...

I'm sure it's all fine really!

:D

no doubt it won't be long before one of our works cars develops this fault then...

Just had the same sort of thing anyway it turned out to be some cover loose got it tightened up when in for service and its fine now, just a shame they did not sort the other faults out ,but i suppose 1 out of 3 aint bad,

I hope this doesnt occur in the passat too, picking my TDi 170 up on friday, im paranoid now :P
