Octavia VRS newbie!

Featured Replies

Hello all...

I grew up in the '80's with a German VW mechanic father fixing VW's - all day, every day - the banter was Skoda jokes.

I've always had German cars of that origin (Beetle, Golf CL, Audi 80, Scirroco GTII...) and have been driving my girlfriends Ford Ka for the last 6 months :thumbdwn:

Recently been promoted through the ranks into sales and given the company car option....with 3 musts: had to be a Skoda, 1 year old, and a diesel.

So I found an Octavia VRS TDi hatch - test drove it (briefly:mad:) about a month ago(seems like ages!) and it's blimin' amazing!

A guy at work has the Race Blue one(petrol version) - which is nice, but I wanted something different, so went for the 'easier to look clean' Silver ?!

As you can imagine from my previous cars - this is a massive step up in performance and power, but I'm very excited as I pick it up 9am on Saturday morning!

My dad is completely in agreement with me that these are now really good cars - driving straight round to take him for spin when I get it!

Anyone got one of these? Any tips/advice?

Hello & welcome :)

I have a Fabia vRS but I'm on the hunt for an Octy Vrs TDi..... found a nice 57plate one for £12k...really really tempted, driven one before and it is a deffinate upgarde to the Fabia. Don't get me wrong, the fabia is an excellent little car, but I think in the next year or two, there may be children on the way so I will need something bigger for a buggy, toys and all that related stuff.

(Actually, mine is nearing 5 years old and 80k, so I'm due a change).

God luck with the car mate!!

Any tips and advice...?

Yeah - drive it a lot! They're quite brilliant. I've had my vRS PD TDi since New Year and I can't get enough of it.

An excellent choice, sure you'll be really happy with it. I bet Saturday can't come soon enough for you!

Tread carefully in second gear, especially when it's wet - it'll spin like mad if you're leaden of foot or uncaring with the clutch!

Thanks for the welcome!

That's the same one as mine soapywalrus - the vRS PD TDi. Really CAN NOT WAIT!

First thing I'm doing is driving 55 miles of mixed dual carriageway/windy roads to drop off/get rid of, my girlfriends Ka(she's driving that) at her parents. Then driving back! Supposed to be dry weather too, but will take it easy - sounds like it will take a bit of getting used to.

2.5 days to go.... and counting.

I came to mine after three years in a 1.6 petrol Focus, which was quite a nice car, but the difference was immense!

I may have stalled it once or twice while I got used to the torque at the bottom end...

I'm a wee bit jealous - I remember the excitement of collection day! I ordered mine before Xmas but couldn't pick it up until 29th December, and basically wished away the whole of Christmas so that I could get down to the important stuff!

A good drive on collection is a great idea - I had to drive from Bedford to York straight away. Since then I've done 4500 miles in two months.

Anyway, welcome to Briskoda. Great site, friendly and helpful and a good laugh too.

See you around ;)
