Tyre Pressure Monitor

Featured Replies

Got up this morning for work , about a mile into my journey got that dreaded "bong" sound when i looked at the dash saw my tyre pressure light on  so pulled over into my local Tesco,s 24hr garage to check my tyres , found 3" screw in my tyre

Anyway swapped the tyre with the space saver  took my knackered one into my local tyre place £10 to repair & also had all my tyres inflated with the "uniflate" stuff , anyone used it / what do they think of it ?

If you mean puncture stuff, then it ruins the tyre and means next time the only option is replace.

It's also only rated for 25-30MPH tops for a short distance (generally 5-10 miles if lucky).

Isn't uniflate Nitrogen?

Yep the nitrogen stuff instead of air , guy at the garage said it was very good stuff to have inside the tyre instead of air , apparently they use it in F1 cars / police cars / fire engines / ambulances / air crafts

Just wondered if anyone else has got it

Bigger molecules mean its less likely to leak out, also remains more stable with temp increases.

The fact that out air is 78% nitrogen anyhow seems to slip some people by.

Don't know if anyone else has it, but it's definitely used in aircraft tyres. Well certainly the big ones!!

Well i always keep my tyre pressures bang on , check them every week . . . personally i think the car feels a hell of a lot better with the nitrogen in (prob just me) lol

My TPM went bong tonight on the way home from work. . . . .the first time it's gone off since I had the car new erhh . . .1500 miles ago.

I kicked all four tyres and concluded that none of them looked flat and carefully drove home the remaining 7-8 miles. I put the car in the garage and checked the pressures 2.4 bar in both rears and 2.3 bar in both fronts. An hour later and they had settled to the correct level of 2.2 rear and 2.1 front:(

So, I had a false warning - I've reset the thing and will see what happens. Do folks get false warnings with this system?? Have I got a fault somewhere???

I have had one false alarm with my TPM not long after buying my car, though the slow puncture I knew I had caused it to go "Bong" on the way home last night. Sure enough it was 0.4bar down in pressure.

However, I also had a complete flat that didn't set the sytem off at all, until I'd change it for the spare and drove another 8 miles....

As it works off the ABS sensors rather than actual tyre pressure, it seems to want a few miles to work out what's really going on.

I had a false alarm the other day - it was after I had taken 4 people with luggage on a trip, everyone got out and I continued on the way home, the TPS went off. Stopped and check the pressures, all ok.

I wander whether it was because I hadnt turned the ignition off when everyone got out....
