110 decibels!

Featured Replies

I read on another forum a good post on de-catting diesels (TurboDiesel & TDCI forums). It said that they will pass the MOT on Emisions (Not tested) but may fail on noise. Unfortunately they have re-vamped the forum so I can't find it.

103 db's in the car is loud , If I remember from Health & Safety Courses, anything above 85 dbA, you need ear protection for.

Just found the link here: Turbo Diesel Owners Club UK - Diesel Emissions and De-Cats

So I think any car above 74db you could fail your MOT. Although I don't now if MOT testers would actually test the noise of cars. I wonder how Rally cars pass as they need a MOT.

110dB is very very loud, can't see your fbaia being anthing like that TBH Jason, my cobra without the silencers in obly just that level

And that was fingers in the ears time pretty much!:rofl:

Just bought a pair of cherrybomb style silencers for it. 2" straight through with an 80mm outside diameter! Should just take the edge off it i hope. Got t be heard in a car like that!

Good news! Found an engineering shop locally specialising in audio/visual for clubs, pubs etc and they measured mine with an A frequency meter! Only 92 decibels so I am confident for tomorrow now.

No one's said it yet so...

Pardon?

:D

Did you get to Combe today? I was up there this morning doing a single seater racecar session in Formula Ford. F'king amazing experience. Such grip and control. Left me wanting MORE MORE MORE....!!!

had a look around for Skodas whilst there. Only mine and another Octy estate I could see, Perhaps you were there later? I was there at 7:30 AM!! Off to bed now after my early start today.

Pity you are not closer! I have a proper SPL meter which will measure upto 170dB.....

I have one of the older maplin meters and it is switchable between A or C weighted.

No one was sound tested anyway on the day, so no problems. Although at one point a guy from Haynes came out and asked if I could keep it down a bit as he could hear the car from in his office (a long way from the track :D)

I wasn't at Combe but will be at the end of April (see my sig)

Interesting read as I was @ Cadwell Park this time last year with my Ibiza (pre big turbo) and I was worried if it would pass as it was very loud IMHO, as I signed on, I walked past the guys doing the sound tests and asked them how loud, 105dB was, as I wasnt sure aobut mine, they then asked me what car it was, so I pointed over to my Ibiza TDi and said just that, they sort of laughed abit and said, it will be fine, so I rolled the car over and at 2,900rpm they sound tested it at 101dB? It passed as its a 105 limit normally at Cadwell. However they were stunned to say the least.

Here is a vid of it at that stage (pre-big turbo again)
