Vacuum hose into airbox

Featured Replies

I've just bought a K&N 57i induction kit and have been looking at the fitting instructions.

On the pictures on the installation guide and also on Bahnstormer vRS's PD TDi the vacuum hose looks different to mine (CR TDI).

The vacuum hose is the little rubber pipe running into the tube coming out of the airbox.

Does anybody know why this is different on the CR, i.e. why it goes into a cylinder about 3 inches long before reverting back to rubber tube?

On a more general note, what does this vacuum hose actually do?

Finally, do you just remove it from the pipe by pulling it out?

Someone must know something about this? Where's Lummox when you need him? ;)

Yes it just pulls out.

The vacuum is an air supply for the valve block that controls the turbo and EGR systems.

Its just an intake but should be filtered.

Thanks Ross. So why does the CR have a cylinder that the tube runs into? What's this for? Does the induction kit improve the flow of air through here too and give performance gains?

Hi,

Sorry, but don't know why there is a difference in the vacuum pipe between the PD and CR. IIRC as Lummox says, it just pulls straight off.

One thing I found fitting my 57i kit, is that you can skip through the instructions about dismantling/removing and refitting the MAF. Just disconnect the airbox from the MAF housing and then fit the new saddle bracket to hold the MAF; there's plenty of room.

Good luck.

Unless it is a case of 'been there, done that' by now.

Cheers Guy. I was hoping to get it done today but I have come down with the lurgy!

Hopefully tomorrow

The wife has that although she is being a brave little soldier having just been to Tesco and now making something nice for tea while I lie on the sofa and watch the cricket

Did you need to remove the engine cover and did you disconnect the negative terminal on your battery?

Yes (gives you space to work) and No ('cos I didn't mess around disconnecting the MAF etc.)
