Cleaning 312mm Calipers

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've had my 312mm brakes on for a week or so, I went to clean them yesterday but my wheel brush doesnt fit behind the caliper to clean the wheel  Has anyone got any tips for reaching this area, what do other people use? I can target the area with my megs wheel brightener but could do with something to just agitate the wheel with?

All help much appreciated!

What brush / brushes do you currently have then mate?

Thanks for quick reply, I normally use my EZ wheel brush but yesterday I was using a premium Halfrauds wheel brush I had lying around but its absolute dog poo (for many reasons), one of my mates had borrowed my EZ brush but TBH I dont think this will fit either, I should have said the wheels are the original 16" Skoda vRS alloys but its super tight behind the caliper now!

If you have the EZ Brush already and it's not up to the job then I would suggest some Vikan Wheel Brushes, I have two as pictured below, one has harder Bristles than the other or source some Detailer Brushes that are pictured below as well:

Or another brush would be the Raceglaze Long Wheel Brush that get's rave reviews but I don't own one as yet............:D

Thanks Baker21 I reckon those Vikan brushes would be a good investment to add to my arsenal :D

No worries...........

Ive just bought a vikan brusk for getting into the areas the ez brush and detailed brushes wont quite reach, was delivered this morning and although a little stiff should do the job nicely.

I just use a old tooth brush... Cant afford all these posh jobbies

A toothbrush was my first thought but there isnt enough room to get the head in there and it's just not quite long enough to get across the whole width of the wheel. I could try a smaller toothbrush and attack the wheel from the otherside I guess

Move the car so that section of wheel is no longer behind the calliper?

......................that would be too easy...............:P

Or take the wheel off, so you can give your caliper some loving?

Even better still. Two bolts and she's free to dangle in a bucket on the brake line

Just ordered a Vikan stiff wheel brush off of Fleabay after reading this thread. My Meguiars wheel brush has gone all flat and matted-looking after not a great deal of use. With any luck, the Vikan should do much better (and is a little cheaper too).

Big thanks to Baker21 :D

The Megs wheel brush is indeed pants I'm afraid but I wouldn't replace it with a Vikan Brush, you may find the Vikan a little too small but see how you get on.........

The EZ Wheel Brush in my opinion is by far one of the best for wheel cleaning............

Yeah I'll wait and see how it is for size when it arrives. Hopefully my small, girly hands will help me reach deep in to my 18" Zeniths without too much bother!

 just take the wheel off? Cheaper than the other options too!

The Vikan brushes are very good. Just be gentle when pulling the brush back to avoid splashes.

The Megs brush is crap.

My Vikan brush arrived today. I have to agree with Baker21 - it does look quite small, but I'm sure it'l be fine for cleaning the Zeniths.

I can also see what people are on about with the stiffness of the brush causing the dreaded splashback!

They do have their place in the collection for wheel cleaning though..............splash back is just something you have to deal with using any brush as I haven't used one which doesn't............it's all part of the fun and games though.............:D

Taking the wheels off is always best but you can't do this every week..................:P

Glad you like the brush..............
