new octy vrs owner-advice welcome

Featured Replies

hi all, 1st time on the forum.

picking up my 07 plate octy vrs petrol hatch on tuesday or wednesday next week, cant wait. I have spent a good couple of months looking and deciding what to spend my cash on-test drove a few things, sabb 9-3 turbo (fast but handled like a big slipper and they have just filed for bankruptcy protection!), Golf gti-nice but overpriced and not as spacious as the vrs. A volvo s40 (boring zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz), new mondeo, not bad but also a bit dull. Looked at a civic type r but too pricy-54 plates at £8000-9000! dont think so!

Out of all of these i kept coming back to the octy-handled as well as the golf-ie on rails. I also love the fact that its a bit of an underdog-all my mates have laughed at me........i will be the one laughing when i leave em 4 dead!

Couple of questions for you guys.

1-How do you find fuel consumption?

2- My car has the 18 inch zenith alloys, jumbo box, parking sensors, heated mirrors, cruise and all round electic windows. Which of these are standard fit on 07 plate?

3-Anything i need to look out for-ie mechanicals, cam belt changes?

4-any owner meets around manchester area?

Look forward to some advice from current owners.

Hi Dan

Welcome to the forum.

I have the same car and apart from short trips in town my fuel consumption is in the low to mid 30s. 36 on a motorway run last weekend.

18 inch zenith alloys, jumbo box and all round electic windows were a free upgrade on my car bought new June 2007. IIRC this offer was introduced some time in Spring 2007, so not all 07 plate cars will have this pack. Heated mirrors are standard. Parking sensors and cruise are options.

I've had 16,000 trouble free miles so far.

Enjoy your vRS!

Welcome :)

Welcome and enjoy it. I do

Mercurio-cheers for the advice-glad they are standard as it wont (shouldnt) affect insurance. i would think that parking sensors shouldnt add to cost of insurance either but they dont always act logically! Insurers have told me that having kids can put insurance up! even though it should make me more responsible-they say kids are a distraction!

Somtimes you cant win.

cheers mate
