I love this forum, it's at times both useful and entertaining. I think that some people through sensible and thoughtful improvement/modification have made their Octavias very nice indeed. However I do think that there are the odd one or two who've just bought the wrong car and are trying to change their Octy in to something it was never meant to be. Without being cruel or rude, I'd like to know which mods people have seen which are the most ridiculous or extreme. My favourite on Briskoda was someone who wanted to convert his 2wd Octy into 4wd by changing floor pan and transmission as opposed to just selling his car and buying the 4wd version.

I'd like to have a go at doing that. I don't mean the limp wristed Spandex version but a proper 4 wheel drive. I wonder if the evo's drive train can be transplanted into an Octavia?????

lol

I want to do that!!!!!. or better still Just have a RWD octavia vRS with a 4.2 V8 410bhp........

Shame I dont have the money but Basically the car would look the same as mine does now jus the underneath would be diff.

I personally dont like the body kits ppl put on. the vRS looks good as is just needs a few minor things. pos a small side skirts(not really seen any small enough yet but iirc the milotec ones are ok)

It's all down to personal preference isn't it? I mean, some prefer to get a lower level car and tweak it so that it's their personal ideal, some prefer just to buy a more expensive car that may be betetr equipped to start with (but perhaps not quite everything they are looking for) and some just enjoy the challenge of tweaking something majorly. I know that I fall somewhere into the former and latter camps. I am happy with the way that the car is as stock but equally know that no stock car would stay that way for long with me because I like to tailor it to suit what I like and want. I also enjoy the challenge of working out what needs to be done to improve the handling/drive etc for my chosen roads and way of driving.

Take the example of the car restorer/modifier who works on old fords (or any other manufacturers cars for that matter). To them, the enjoyment comes not from driving the finished product but actually the poring over catalogues, tracking down obscure parts and taking something from virtual scrap to a stunningly roadworthy car. They then sell their creation without so much as a drive. Why? The fun is in the journey, not the destination. If somebody wants to test themselves and tweak a stock car into something not commercially available (Norris' 3dr Evo or the aforementioned Evo running train into a 2wd shelled Octy or even a RWD Vectra) then so be it.

Is it rediculous? No. The only thing that matters is that the person who created it derives enjoyment from it, not what somebody else thinks when they look at it.

I guess it personal choice as said above

If they enjoy it then what is harm ???

Truth to both 'sides' of the coin there.

Is it financially sensible to spend large sums of money on a car? Probably not.

Is it potentially lots of fun? Generally yes :)

Some unique cars were created though that are far beyond what the manufacturer originally achieved in some ways, or worse in others. I see it more as tailoring the car to the owner's needs/wishes :)

Ok, I don't want a 300bhp car, but why should the fact that VAG want me to spend out a 5 grand premium on an Audi if I want an A4 chassis car with 300 brake stop me getting the Skoda that I prefer the appearance of and the 300 brake?

I agree with Cloverleaf. This is the first car I have owned that has been worthy of modding, I absolutley love them standard and I love seeing people's efforts in modding them.

Without this forum I would not have known where to start and while some mods are not to my tastes or preferences many leave me thinking...Damn I want that

When I am finished (if I ever am) with this car I may opt for a 4x4 octi to see what an Octi really is capable of but until then I will keep adding things that I see on here that I like and if I do go the 4x4 route at least I know some of the things I have can be ported over.

I often say my car is my hobby, some play golf, others go fishing I choose to get under my bonnet with a spanner and a cardboard box with Awesome GTI printed on it
