Fabia Lock Failure - Replacement options?

Featured Replies

Hi, My fabia is knocking on a bit now, 107,000 miles and the drivers side door lock has started to fail, it wont lock the car any more. The same key will lock the passenger side door without any problem so the lock is definately to blame.

I know of a couple of Fabia's in a scrapyard near me, they still have the locks intact and no doubt I could get the keys.

So, if I got a pair of locks and keys, can they be re-coded to the car as I know the fabia has the immobiliser chip built into the key, or would I need to get the ECU*, locks, and keys from a car with the same engine?

*I presume like Ford cars, the ECU controls the immobiliser function, corrent me if i'm wrong.

When I priced up a new lock from the dealer, it was apparently going to be more than £100, as well as having to take the car to the dealer, with a spare key for them to send off and about 17 forms of ID.

Dave.

I wouldnt assume its the lock, can easily be the catch behind it if the mircoswitch has failed.

Microswitch? There shouldn't be any microswitches, this car doesn't have Central locking.

When you try to lock the door you have to repeatedly turn the key counter clockwise until you see the button on the doorcard go down, its as if something isn't catching, but I cant imagine what.

Dave.

There will be some anyhow for the interior lights etc.

Try taking the lock out, you may find the paddle behind has broken which can be replaced on its own on some door locks.

There is a guide on how to remove them

Hmm, ok i'll have a look next chance I get, but I cant imagine it being a microswitch related problem. The interior lights are controlled by the doorswitch rather than something in the lock from what I understand.

I'll have a look for that guide. Thanks Lummox.

Dave.

The lock and the catch is all one unit.

I cant see it being a microswitch issue either but you didnt state in your first post that the car didnt have CDL.

Still could be the barrell itself

Yes those are the bitim talking about above.

You dont need to code the keys.
