I have a skoda octavia sport and i am experiencing some problems:

I went to fill the car with fuel and closed the cap and now it is stuck and will not open!!

Does anyone know what i can do

Thanks !

try locking and un locking the doors .

Is it the actual fuel filler cap or the rectangular flap that covers the cap?

I have a similar problem, in the end I gave the flap a firm tap with the palm of my hand and it opened. On close inspection I found that the inner housing was cracked and the sprung loaded release pin is moving away from the flap. I discovered this when I first went to fill up after pick the car up from the dealer. New part on order.

It is the retangular flap!

It is more likely the mechanism that keeps the flap closed. As the previous poster says, give it a sharp slap to try and free it up. It might be some crud in the mechanism or a visit to the dealer for a fix.

There is also a pin that slides out to secure the flap when the car is locked. Make sure that is working correctly.

My problem is with the rectangular flap.

Is there not a release somewhere else inside the car to open the rectagular flap like there is on a vauxhall.

I have slapped it but it will not open !!

Nope, on the Octavia 2 the flap is released by pushing in on it at the edge nearest the rear of the car, opposite where it hinges out. Shine a torch in the gap and see if the locking pin has slid across to secure the flap. You should see it motor in and out when locking/unlocking the car.

As far as I'm aware there is no release inside the boot. Can you hear the pin release when you unlock the car?

Right I had mine break clean off (not due to this) and had to replace it and the part has been slightly modified.

The little sprung bit is actually a separate part in the whole thing.

To open the flap pop something solid but not hard (credit card etc) under the edge of the rear of the flap and it will come open with only a tiny amount of movement.

Once it's open clean out the sprung section and the surrounding areas and spray it with silicon grease. Work this in to the rubber and make sure the spring item has been properly covered. Leave it to work in for a while and then wipe off with a piece of kitchen roll or old rag. Repeat if needed until the spring rubber no longer feels hard.

If the lock is stuck then you go into the boot and get behind the carpet on the fuel cap and netted storage area side. You need a torx bit to remove the bag hanger and also need to undo one or two other screws to pull the carpet back.

Then loosen the two screws holding the lock in and slide it back to the end of the run. This will then have pulled the pin out of the locking tab and allow you to release the flap if this is the cause.
