Octy vs Jetta

Hi Guys, just an update, got my Octy back from the bodyshop on Friday and dropped the Jetta off. Instantly noticed how harsh the ride is in my Octy, really disappointed :( I really love the Octy, well it goes to show coz this is my 3rd one. I suppose the only options I have is to either change the 17" wheels for 16's and or fit FSD's. Do FSD's make that much difference compared to stock ? Also if I went for fitting FSD's would this affect my warranty as the car isn't quite 2 years old ? Otherwise it might be a case that I'll be turning to the darkside (VW) on my next car, which would be a shame

Did the jetta have sports suspension or does yours?

The Jetta had sports suspension, thats the only difference with both cars. They both have 2.0 TDi, 225/45 17 wheels/tyres, the Jetta had Conti's I've got Michelin's. Is it just a case that the VW is better built ? (sorry for the blasphamy )

As far as I know the sports suspension makes a huge difference.

As has been said before, even if both cars have so-called 'sports suspension', what that actually means in practice can be worlds apart, in terms of spring rate and damper rebound rates, to name just two variables. You've also got different kerb weights and different sprung and unsprung masses on both cars.

I'd recommend a change first of all to FSDs on the damper side, while keeping the std springs. These will offer far more ride compliance, as they have an adjustable internal reservoir that can bleed fluid in and out as required. Koni primarily offer these for use with OEM springs, so I see no issue in warranty terms, apart from the damper unit itself obviously, where your warranty will be with Koni.

Thanks Steve, I'll have a look into it

What tyre pressure were you running in the the Jetta and your Octy ? Also Contis have a reputation for a softer ride, while Michelins can have a harsher ride on rougher roads. Maybe try swapping the Jetta wheels onto your Octy to see if that is the difference ? Things to consider before you go spending serious dosh.

Unfortunately I only had the Jetta while my Octy was in the bodyshop for repair. I'm currently running my tires with 33, as I've seen most of the guys with 17's and 18's tend to use between 32-34 psi.

We use 32 all round in ours with 17" Pegs and sports suspension.
