Chasing a noise on a Fabia Mk2 sport

Featured Replies

I've had my 08 plate Fabia a few weeks now, and I've picked up on a noise. It's a bit of a grinding noise from starting to move, and it fades out to bearly audible at approx 20mph, but it is still there. It doesn't happen in tick over in neutral, and only seems to happen when the car is in motion. I don't think it's a gearbox or transmission problem, as the noise is still there when the car is moving with the clutch depressed, but that said, it has covered 20k in it's first year, and I've heard stories about Dual mass flywheels. It seems to sound like a failed wheel bearing, but I've jacked the car up, and all the wheels are solid, and quiet. I've had the car back to Skoda, who took the brakes apart, cleaned them, checked for stones, and re-camfered the brake discs, but the noise is still there. They didn't charge for the work they have done, and I was advised to let the noise develop. The only thing is, I don't want to be risking too much damage. Sorry for such a long post,:o I just thought it would be good to give as much detail as came to mind. Hopefully I can get some pointers. Thanks in advance

It now appears as if the noise is coming from the transmission end, and is a grating noise when the engine is under load. as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, the noise dies down. I get the same result when I disengage the clutch. This one is a real head scratcher!
