Can a DMF be goosed but you have no clutch slip?

Featured Replies

As above, when I'd just parked up today after an hour run, and was letting the car idle for a minute, when I noticed that a second or two after disengaging first gear and letting the clutch up i got a sort of grind noise, not very loud but you could just hear it with the fans and CD player off.

Thing is, I have not experienced any clutch slip, and when driving normally I get no clutch noise just the stupid dogbone clunk :thumbdwn:

DMF failures normally result in a knocking noise at idle, so there might not be any clutch slip. DMF was designed to give a smoother delivery of the power.

Yes it can be gubbed without slip.

Springs etc breaking up inside the DMF.

from your description of the noise , it does not sound like the DMF has failed

in my experience , a DMF will knock when you start/stop the engine , i.e. poor or no damping

or the engine will vibrate excessively , due to the damping having seized

there aren't really springs as such inside the DMF , it uses a very sticky grease like substance inside as a damping medium, this makes a big mess inside the bellhousing when it comes out

Not sure if this is the same thing, but in my vrs when I engage the clutch at highish revs, especially when accelerating in second then dropping to change into 3rd I get a light grinding/possibly wobbly noise. Had it checked by a dealer and had a clutch replaced since, guy said dmf looked okay. No knocking or funny noises at idle with clutch in or out.

Not sure what it is but it does sound disconcerting

I dunno, not really bothered about it at the minute, more concernced with the knocking/ clunking/ grinding coming from the left of the car when turning right and at crawling speeds, ruddy cars
