140pd noise on accelaration 1400-2000 rpm hi gears

Featured Replies

oct 2007 140tdi pd scout- noticed on accelarating in hi gear range 1400-2000 rpm a growling/slight metallic noise from engine/drive train which drops of after 2000-2200 rpm - similair to a noise you might expect from an exhuast with a small hole in it-distinctly audible from normal pd engine noise.

first thought are the front ball joints or rotule as they call them here..

all other parameters normal ..

32000 km since new

appreciate the notes on this -but will go to dealer anyway as 6 months to run on the

warrantry

thanks:thumbup:

Most likely the DMF as that is being stressed a lot at RPMs that low in the higher gears. I bet the noise disappears if you change into the right gear before accelerating :)

Any shuddering when this happens? You are at peak torque there

You're describing a similar change in engine 'tone' I'm experiencing on a 1k 4 week old car. Same infamous DMF has been suggested.

I'd appreciate it if you could post up what your dealer advises.
