recommend me a new lappy, please

Featured Replies

i think i'm due for a new laptop , can anyone make any suggestions please

i have an Acer at present , but keys are getting dodgy, and even the on/off switch is sometimes not working

my current one just generally gets used for internet browsing, the odd DVD/CD burning

no gaming , so wont need super fast graphics

the only problem i may have is everything i have (software/hardware)works on XP , have all the software compatability issues with Vista been sorted out ?

looking to spend £400 , maybe £500

You can get some very nice samsung models for about £500.

It has vista, but nearly everything runs fine in XP mode under vista anyway these days.

sorry if i sound thick , but what does this mean  the computer is running 2 operating systems

thats what really worries me about going to Vista , at least with XP i can sort of find my way round

also , not so sure i will need in excess of 300gb in a hard drive , this Acer only has a 40gb one and i've only used 13gb of it in nearly 4.5 years

Sorry but having had to use novatech laptops before, I'd never buy one with my own money, either big and heavy and hot or not particularly strong.

XP compatability mode means you right click on the app to run, open properties and tell it to run in XP mode. Vista can pretend to be XP for most apps and it will just run.

A 320GiB hard disk will fill up quickly, vista takes a fair bit as do modern applications and any music etc. For the £500 I don't think you'll find much better. As for a 40GB drive, I don't think they are actually *made* any more and most will be ex stock items if they are around.
