They're the wrong profile. For a vRS at least (which has a slightly bigger rolling radius as standard to the rest of the range), the recommended tyre size on 17's is 205/40/17, but it's probably best to go down to a 35 profile tyre on a non-vRS (which is one of the main reasons I just bought 16's instead of 17's).

Otherwise you'd be looking at issues such as wonky handling and ride, blunted acceleration (which in my experience is a very undesirable effect in a 1.4mpi :eek:), inaccurate speedo and probably decreased fuel economy.

On t'other hand, the displayed mileage would be slightly less than the actual mileage due to the increased rolling radius
