What the hell are 'Locking Eyes' and where do I get them?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Just picked up the Fab VRS today and I must say I am mightily impressed with the drive (torque is awesome on the motorway!) - first time I have owned a diesel and I may never go back!

Anyway.... The car was bought primarily for my wife to cart our baby daughter around. We have ISOfix and a base in the Saab Aero and it makes life very easy so I was going to transfer it tonight to find it nigh on impossible to do so.

Eventually reverted to the manual (male trait I suppose:P) and it talks of a 'Locking Eye' which fixes to the Seat ring and then the base slots onto that. That is all well and good but the manual seems to suggest I, as an owner of the vehicle, should already have these in the car? Are they stored somewhere else in the car (boot toolkit etc) or is it an 'accessory' I must purchase from Skoda?

Thanks for your help,

Dadoc2001

Incidentally the ISOfix base is a Maxicosi it that makes any difference?

I've just looked through the entire Body section and accessories section of ETKA for you and there is nothing I can find called a Locking Eye or anything related to the IsoFix system - sorry!

Are the locking eyes the metal yellow painted "loops" you can see in these pics....

or

I think they could be Part B on the pic below from the Fabia Manual.

Not sure whether the Part A (mounting funnel) is integrated into your seat, or whether you need an "ISOFIX Seat - Spare Locator Guide" from your Skoda dealer - ?koda Accessories.....

Note: I have never used or installed an ISOFIX seat myself, so I would recommend checking with your Skoda Dealer if there is any doubt as to the compatability and correct fitting of a child seat.

The locking eyes are part A? Its the part A bits that I am looking for. In the SAAB a piece of my lower backrest flips open like a letterbox exposing the rings - my Isofix base clips directly onto the rings

However...

In the VRS the rings (as shown by Andy2407) sit MUCH lower making the base sit at almost 45 degrees or puttting severe compression on the rear bench cusioning. I expect these Locking Eyes to raise the Isofix Base to make it sit almost horizontal with the seat base?

Hmmm.......

Hmmm - indeed

I think I understand what you mean - it does seem very odd.

I guess a trip to the dealer may be required - let us know how you get on - I'm intrigued!

Why's that Andy? Do you need one to keep Katie under control?

I always thought she was a dark horse.....

The isofix eyes are really low on the Fabia. We've got the same Maxicosi base and it's just a case of squashing the seat. Part A in that picture are the bright yellow clips the base should have come with. They just clip over the metal eyelets fixed to the car to make it a bit easier to locate the seat base. I find it easiest to fix the seat by extending the locking hooks on the base all the way out, then holding the base at about 45 degrees between the seat and the back rest and just pushing it in.

Thanks for that! I was a little more forceful this afternoon with the base and right enough as you say it fitted in:thumbup:. Must say I am a little surprised that the eyelets are so tight to the seat!

Thanks again:)

Yeah, so was I. I started off test fitting it with the seat base removed but wasn't happy with how much it moved about so put it back in and just squashed it! You also seem to have to have the leg extended all the way for it to fit in the right position and get a green telltale.
