Loss of power

Featured Replies

Intermittent problem which usually occurs on uphill inclines - foot to floor but no power (top speed 25-30) and revs only goes up to 3,000,

Only way to correct it is to pull over and restart engine - anyone got any ideas what could be the cause

+1 Always start with a code scan, could be one of several things.

Engine is going into limp mode which is basically a way of saving the engine from any damage, could be a number of things but best to get it scanned first. However I would suspect the turbo is overboosting & causing this as the engine is under load uphill.

Dealer linked car up to computer and no faults reported but problem remains

It may not show any up, when I had a Passat I had this problem turned out to be the VNT Turbo was sticking & momenterily over boosting the engine leading to the problem you describe. Its not uncommon on VAG cars for this to happen, but your car is mot definately going into limp mode. My educated guess would be the turbo but dont hold me to that, I would suggest you take it to a reputable specialist or somwhere with a rolling road so the condition could be replicated whilst hooked up to a computer.

Car has been with dealer all week (courtesy car supplied) called in to dealer this morning - they have replaced N75 solenoid which had failed but no fault was shown on earlier test, but a fault code is now showing and they are waiting on a "Technician" to check out the problem next week.

All been well should have my own car, with full power, back on the road next week!

good luck
