From the cigarette lighter in the centre console. Lots of room to get it up and a gap at side of glovebox. Invisible and easy. No problems with interference with warnings (e.g. handbrake is not always 12V). Inline fuse easy to insert if lower current required. HTH

What for?

The Glove box light is fused at 10 amps,it has a semi permanent 12 volt supply. It is 12 volts until the control unit which turns it off after a period ( if the interior light,or the glovebox light has been left on) has timed out . To sum up it will supply all the time the car is being driven ,but cannot be left on permanently. I have an in lead cigarette socket fitted ,and use it for my Sat Nav,or charge a mobile phone out of sight.

Thats very interesting actually. So it will solely give power until the engine is off? Its basically for a mounted bullet camera and digital video recorder. Which will only be used while the car is in motion thus making the glovebox light an ideal candidate!

If you wish the supply to turn off immediately when you turn the ignition key off,you need to look around the radio , ignition switch,or fuse box area. The Glove Box light stays on for a period of time set by the electronics. This is to stop the battery going flat if item is left switched on. I have no idea what the length of time is,I think you will have to leave on until it turns off to find out?. There might be somebody on ' Briskoda ' who knows ?

Well the camera and DVR uses very little battery power anyway, it was left on via a live feed from the battery all last night and didnt affect starting the car in the slightest this morning. Its more of a just be better safe than sorry thing really. I've got a switch I can fit onto the live, but if theres a source that turns off on its own that would be better and also alot neater I think!

I used this as sound advice but I'm not convinced the power goes off when you lock the car and the glovebox shut etc

Any confirmation on this from anyone ? I used this as a cheeky option to get 12v without pulling my stereo out but looks like I might now have to anyway....

As summary then Ignore ths past advice to take 12v from glovebox I don't think this is right.

Or if it is the information is well hidden and the timeout for the glovebox is extremely long. Honestly though I think its just operated from the switch on the glovebox but just can't get around to reading the wiring diagram for this but unless there is some vagcom settable setting for this then its pointless anyway.

Just get it from the stereo brown and red wire at pin4, or from a new feed on the fuse area as appropriate if you come about to read this thread again.

Dunno what car Andy Pandy had this working on but it definitely doesn't on a BLT, although I didn't leave it on ALL night to check ! Read plenty of posts though of people complaining their glovebox lights remained on which is enought to convince me a lot of cars must have perma 12v feed to the glove light.
