Scout performance off road

Featured Replies

I have VRS pd estate and am am really pleased with it.....great to drive , comfortable, economical, hooooog boot which is essential for me and loads of other great things too......except ......it's rubbish in the snow (not that we get much!) and on fields (where I tend to take it along the side of river banks when fishing!), where it slips and slides everywhere, and I end up parting with cash to get Farmer Giles to tow me out.

I propose to change next year, and am so impressed with my first ever Skoda, that I can only really consider another. But this time, am thinking that my "yahoo" style of driving in the VRS, must be calmed down a bit and am therefore considering a Scout, as I am visiting more off road areas.

I doubt if any garage will allow me to "test drive" a Scout off road and in the Tractor wheel ruts in muddy lanes/fields.

So, Can any one with a Scout advise on the "Off Road" performance?

No 4x4 will do better on rubbish summer tires. Have ready a set of steel wheels with good A/T tires or even M+S which you can use in the winter, and you'll be amazed what difference they make.

If it's on summer grade road tyres, as said above pretty poor I'd guess.

4x4 or ESP, neither can beat the laws of physics.

As Scout owner I can fully agree on the importance of winter tires. Wintertires on a 4x4 is of course the best, but I rather drive in a two wheel drive with winter tires than with my scout going to the alps with the summer tires.

I have seen regular cars taking steep hills in snow with winter tires.

Traction of summer tires is insufficient in the snow to get up the hill, even with snow chains! I have seen it happen in the Alps.

It's not a case of what will get me about in the snow and off the beaten track it's more of the case that the scout with the right tyres and the right driver will make it incredibly easy to get by in all road conditions, which is why i'm going to get one.

Keep the vRS and spend a grand on an old Land-Rover for going fishing in. :)

Enjoy the video ;) -

HOW MUCH FUN DOES THAT LOOK :D :d :D :D I WANT A SCOUT!!!!

The standard tires of the Scout are very flat summer tires (Dunlop Sport) since most Scout drivers almost never leave the paved roads. The tires have good highway performance. In the future I am considering to invest in all road tires if I am planning an off the road summer vacation (not this year).
