Tyre Pressures

Featured Replies

I have dunlop sp sports fitted,on from new now done 11000 miles, checked them today and seem to be waring quite a lot more in the middle compared to the outside and inside running them at the recommended tyre pressures,is this normal ? or under inflation , over inflation ? Rear ones like new still.

Normally you'd say this was oer inflation - however, if you are running and the incredibly low skoda recommended pressures (29 PSI for me!!!!!!) theni just cant believe it can be that.

What PSI are you running?

Sounds like over inflation for the car loading

Have you checked with several gauges? Local serice stations around here vary by about 8psi

Don't trust garage gauges. Only way to be sure of your pressures is to use your own (good quality) gauge. I'm running 35psi all round (as recommended by VW for the Golf 5 GTi).

So how do you know your own gauge is still in calibration? Where/what is your datum?

i use a digital one bought from tesco's for a few quid, seems the most reliable one ive used to date.

I don't. But I'd trust it any day over a garage gauge abused daily by Joe Public...

Don't you have the electronic gauges with all the sensors in a box on the wall? The only thing that gets abused with them is the fitting that attaches to the valve.

As an indication, I have about 5 pressure gauges. I checked them a few years back & they read anywhere from -4psi to +6psi from true. While I agree the old fashioned handheld garage units can be much worse, the newer electronic units aren't too bad. Sure, do a sanity check with a known good gauge but overall the garage ones that I use are just as accurate as my personal gauges.

When it comes to calibration checking, trust just doesn't apply.

Got my own digital pressure gauge which i used on my previous car and had no uneven wear on tyres, was thinking of running them at say 29 on the front ones to see if it makes a difference,if wear in the middle is over inflation.

The Octy is much heavier. 33 seems the tried and tested best by members.
