Unstable vRS

Featured Replies

My vRS is feeling very unstable at the front end. Recently went over a very bad road and alignment went for a toss. Did the alignment and it wont come properly. Though the alignment result showed zero toe, I could see the front left tire sliding out (toe-out). Took the vehile to the service center and found out that the front left lower-arm bush was cut and got it pressed. After that did the alignment and the results are fine and I dont see the toe-out anymore.

However I find the front very unstable on speeds above 70 Kmph. It loses grip every time I run over uneven roads or even if i take a turn above 100 KMph. I had no such problem before the incident. Took it to the service center and am being told that everything is fine. But I can feel the difference. The tires (Michelin PP2) are new and done only 6000 Km. What could be wrong?

Thanks all.

Ram

I live in Pune, India. We dont have STS here.

Is there anywhere that can do a full geometry alignment rather than just a basic tracking check? If you don't understand what I'm talking about, read http://briskoda.net/maintenance-performance/wheel-alignment-big-con/125397/ from the very beginning.

I have not done full geometry alignment. I will find out who has it here. BTW Is it possible to diagnose the problem without doing full geometry?

There are some basic checks you can do, like measuring the wheelbase each side, and checking the various straight arms, rear beam and so on aren't measurably bent, but those won't show a misaligned rear thrust axis (rear wheels are trying to go round a corner when you're going straight, and this hurts fuel and tyre mileage, as well as stability), camber or caster misalignment unless the bend is bad...
