Spare Wheel

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Want to change my drivers side front wheel for my spare tyre. The car has Bridestone Turanza's all round but the spare is a Goodyear Eagle NCT. Upon getting the spare out and putting it alongside the existing wheel it looks much bigger in diamater to the existing one. Both wheels appear to be the same and the tyres have the same size written on them,

Is this just an illusion until you actually put it on the car or could it actually be bigger?

Well if the tyre size on both wheels are the same e.g. 205/55 16 - then they are the same. Anything else must be an illusion.

If the spare is unused and the F/O/S tyre is slick there will be a noticeable difference in size. You will have 6-8mm more tread on the new tyre. thats an extra 12-16mm overall.

Failing that, get a tape measure out to physically verify the sizes.

I would place the spare on the rear side and move one of the rears to the front.
