Thinking of buying these :

GENUINE SKODA FABIA 2007 ONWARDS HEADLAMP PROTECTORS on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 01-Apr-09 19:14:26 BST)

Basically, if I fit aftermarket HID bulbs, will these work with this type of headlamp without the dazzle that you get with reflector headlamps?

Cheers in advance :)

there headlamp PROTECTORS.. which is just a thin bit of plastic to stop stones etc smashing the actual glass of your headlights.

As above..... its just some clear plastic

and i think there for the fabia 2 arn't they?

and you profile says you have an SE..... so there not going to fit

i had a look on ebay and couldn't find any specificaly for a fabia either?

Haha apologies that's my fault! I just saw the pic and assumed it was the projectors as it had the projector bulb.

Does anyone know where you can get a decent set of projector bulbs and how much I would be looking at?

The units to fit the MK1 OEM are about £500

Each.

You can get some euro clone type efforts from continental based vendors but the suitablility of these on UK roads isn't a given. There isn't a lot of information on this or simnilar mods because of the lack of options and perceived costs.

Ive put a set of Philips Bluevisions in my sidelights, dipped, main and fogs(sorry :P), thing is I fail to see this supposed 'blue tint' they give off  Im thinkin that maybe I need fit projectors to see it?

Skoda Fabia Xenon HID Head lights (facelift) chrome

Reading the description, apparantly they do RHD models, which sounds promising, only thing is the price is puttin me off abit . Would these make a difference, or would I be better off (bank balance wise) getting these?

Skoda Fabia 99-03 PAIR Headlights Head lamp Light VRS

The "blue tint" you speak of is due to chromatic aberration and it doesn't come as a reslt of what bulbs you fit.

Chromatic aberration - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

*trying to get my head around this* :o

So what your saying is, the headlight lens is stopping this aberration occuring? Or the actual bulb itself?

Just so you get an idea, these are modded OE Xenons from a vRS.

The ones in the ebay link above look pretty good, price isnt too bad.

No, in projectors it occurs anyway as a result of using a lense, read the article. It doesn't really occur so you would notice in normal headlamps

Ok, I did read the article and this is what Ive gathered...

- So to get that HID look, a projector headlamp with any type of bulb fitted would suffice? Seeing as you said, this involves the light passing through a lens which disperses the colours of the light spectrum at different wavelengths?

- And the reason it isnt occuring at the moment is due to the fact my standard headlamps lack a lens in which to focus all the different colours of light?

Lummox: Any idea how much those cost and where from?

This sounds about right. I used to have Punto (mark2, prefacelift) and the lights on that were projectors (but with normal halogen bulbs) and they have the blue-ish HID tint to them.

The lamps are genuine Skoda ones I took off the vRS when I built the estate, I stripped and painted the insides to give them a different look.

Gonna be about £500 at least for the pair new.

But that's just the beginning though isn't it? You need self-levelling and headlamp washers to be totally legal. Am I right in thinking that the self-levelling needs a new rear axle?

IIRC if your fitting a HID kit you legally need those, yes.

It has the same rear axle, the bracket is there on all rear beams, on some cars its used for the brake compensator.

But mine has the auto level and washing system fitted also.
