Which oil in 2.0 tfsi

Featured Replies

I've passed 12.5k miles and had 1 oil change so far(at arround 9k) and dealer gave me castrol slx longtec professional 0w-30 but i read somewhere it's not that good for tfsi engine so what is the most recommended oil arround here? I've tried searching but no luck. And one more thing... Twice so far i've had the yellow oil light come up and i immediately switched off and added liter of oil. Was this harmful or is it just made like that for precaution. I've never had this problem with 1.9 tdi pd.

Greetings

To be honest I use:

Halfords 5W30 VW/Audi Fully Synthetic 5L Oil from Halfords Price £41.99

In my Octy vRS with the 2.0 TFSI.

It meets the requirements for VW 504 & VW 507

Although the Halfords name may put some off, I'm informed the oil is actually made by another company - I've certainly had no problems with it.

The 2.0 TFSI engine is known to drink a little oil.

I think I'm putting in around 1-1.5L every 3 months.

I let my gauge display the low oil warning once and I had to drive to get oil before topping up - it's if you get the "full blown - you're out of oil" warning light you don't want to be driving anywhere.

Once you have seen the warning light once you'll probably get into the habbit of checking the oil each month and topping up where neccessary.

I use the halfords VW approved one in my tfsi to. Sure it was only £34 or there abouts instore!

The halfords stuff is fine, Don't let the name put you off as halfords don't make it, they have to buy from a supplier who will be someone like shell, castrol or mobile as those are the guys who pruduce the stuff.

Thats thwe Halfords one ;) Made by Comma

One other benefit is it's a 5 litre can so it'll fill the sump with a little spare left over for top ups...

So no one heard about castrol SLX longlife III being bad for tfsi engines? I dont have halfords here and i'm forced to pay 20 euros per liter for castrol and i'm not even sure it's good thing to use it in tfsi. Engine is still breaking in so i expect it to use little bit more oil but it used 3 liters for 12k and it's a lot compared to tdi. It is driven pretty hard though :D

No, I've never heard that one.

As long as it complies with VW spec I can't see what the issue is.

I use Castrol Edge 5w30 because it's 1/3 of the price of the Castrol LLIII stuff & I'm on fixed 15,000km services so the Long Life stuff isn't absolutely necessary.

I will probably try something else at the next service as it gives the tiniest (like a millisecond) bit of rattle at start up.

Edit: James26 - The Edge in the UK must be different to down here because ours doesn't meet VW504/507

Have a look at Opie Oils, a partner on this site and see if you can arrange a delivery to you :)

There's a wide range of products on there, as well as recommendations. Highly recommended.
