Fabia ABS Problems or ??

Featured Replies

Hi Gents.

Havent been on here for a while, car has been going great till this morning:eek:

Just had my rear tyres changed and on the way home my ABS light kicked in.. do anything more than 30 - 35mph and the car wants to stop ABS warning lights flashing.

5hi7 myself pulling away from a roundabout :D

Any Ideas what could be going on with it, could it be the ABS sensors on the rear wheels ??

Took it down to my local garage that does all my servicing etc, he popped on the code reader, nothing showing..

Its a 2001 1.9TDi 49000 on the clock from new

Any Help hugely appreciated..

Willy.

Possibly the tyre fitters have knocked an ABS sensor out of whack. Might just be crud as well.

Like you say, a fault code scan should have picked up any damaged sensors or WHY. Seems daft, but they've not put two different tyres on by mistake, have they? If they're not the same circumference, it'll send the ABS controller mental...

On the rear I have a set of 185 70 14 and on the fronts I have 185 60 14 would that make a difference back & front ??

Willy..

Different profile front and back = different rolling circumference = ABS very confused.

GET IN!!! :woohoo:

:D

Bit tough for you, like... :(

FWIW, you should be running 165-70-n14s or 185-60-n14s depending on the version, so it looks as though the fitters got the right profile and rim diameter, but the wrong profile. Provided you've kept the receipts etc., the fitters should put it right FOC.

Gentlemen you are brilliant..You Have saved me a fortune (I hope :D)

I do have the receipt so I will be taking it back in the morning, The profile I had on it were 185 60 14s the original Michelins with 49000 on the clock, the tread was fine but the walls were starting to go..so I thought it was time to change :D:P

Thanks again lads:thumbup:

Willy..

P.S I will update tomorrow..

And I thought I had problems with a garage that could understand sizes but not speed ratings!

Feed the tyre sizes into the tyre size calculator in The wheel and Tyre Bible below:

Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 2 of 2

The difference in circumference between the tyres you have front and rear is a whopping 6.02%!

Also the Fabia Owner's Manual says:

Only fit radial tyres of the same type on all 4 wheels (rolling circumference) and, if possible, the same tread pattern on one axle.
