Cylinder shutdown

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a 1.4(16v) Elegance, with low mileage. Cylinder 1 has just shut down (Not ECU or wiring) believed to be a sticking valve.

After 2 engine flushes i'm now getting different warning codes:

P0106 & P0170. The fuel trim is way out +25% to -17%. The engine thinks the outside air temperature is 30 degrees...

Have cleaned out the throttle body. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

Alright, your fault codes are;

P0106 Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem

P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1)

By looking at these codes, i would try a new Manifold Absolute Pressure unit. But i would also try getting one from a scrappies before shelling out £100 quid for one.

How have you determined cylinder 1 is at fault?

Thanks for your feedback.

I'll look into the Manifold absolute pressure unit (sounds expensive). Is this a common fault on Fabias? Or am I just unlucky?

As for Cylinder 1, the initial ECU faults were misfire's on cylinder 1. The spark plug on cylinder 1 was working but the injector wasn't which led us to believe it was ECU or wiring.

since then we think the problem was a sticking valve as compression was so low for cylinder 1 and I believe this prompted the ECU to shut it down.

2 engine flushes later and the compression is rising again but still lower then the others.

It's only been after the engine flushes that the other warning codes have appeared...
