I've now had two or three electrical problems relating to snapped wires.

In my first fabia, one of the wires in the engine bay that powered the dashboard was three quarters broken before I caught it and had it repaired by an independent garage. This was a diesel fabia.

In my current vrs, the reverse lights stopped working due to the wire breaking just behind the plug that plugs on to the gearbox.

The alternator light never illuminated because a wire running in front of the gearbox from the alternator had broken just before another plug.

All of these have been due to the wires being too fecking short to begin with.

Just wondering how many among us have had problems relating to wires snapping or being too short, and if your car is diesel or petrol :)

Not with the Fabia, but my A3 had reverse light leads that were too tight and broke, and I know that this happens to other cars on the Golf 4 platform (Golf, Bora, Octy etc), so it's not unheard of. Ask Lummox, he knows the repair well.

Not had any problems with the Fabia vRS in 80k odd (going to find some wood to touch)!

Very strange i've never heard off wires breaking mid length where there is no flexing. If it was wiring between the door and frame, I could understand as there is constand bending and straightening. I've never had this on a modern car that I have owned and I suppose I'm lucky. Are your wires breaking at the connector or in mid length?

yes, had a dodgy wire on my coolant sensor, in my opinion it's because the wires were too short and it was straining them to get is squarely in the connector

yes problem with alternator wire in the cold last month local dealer did under warranty said they have seen a few like this not surprising 82k now

Hi

yes mine had the alternator wire break

Thanks to Lummox , I didn`t have to have the alternater replaced ;)

Sarah

Alternator exciter wire here as well but that's the only one...

Would it be possible for pictures so that we can check ours?

At the connector :)

That makes sense then.

At the connector :)

Yep, that's where things usually break. The reverse light thing I mentioned breaks right by the connector.
