VRS TFSI Servicing Question

Featured Replies

Ive had my Octy VRS for about 16 months and am wondering when i should be expecting the service indicator to next come on ?

It had its first service at just over 19000 miles and approx 7 months after i bought it from new, and now its upto just over 40000 miles and another 9 months later with no sign of it asking for a service .... is this normal ? seems along time to me .....

Turn the ignition on (don't start engine), put seatbelt on, and press the ODO reset button - HOLD it down for a few seconds and it'll tell you how long till the next service ;)

I was told by someone else to try starting the engine whilst holding down the reset, in early December, and it came up SERVICE NOW!! (or words to that affect)- spoke to the dealer i bought the car from (Merrits Aylesbury) and they informed me that the car didnt need a service and that what i was doing by pressing that button was resetting the service interval ??? and that it is impossible to know when the car needs servicing until it starts flashing in the display - i pointed out to them that what i was doing was written in the owners manual and the woman "got the huff" and went to get the manager, he also informed me that its impossible to check how long until the service is due and that the manual is wrong ????

im now very confused and a little worried that i may be damaging/have already damaged my pride n joy :-(

Help and advice appreciated !!

What i said still stands, i did it just this morning :)

Blokey you've been talking to is talking rubbish. If you're really that worried, get it booked in and they can plug the car in and check via the computer. Or if you have a friendly VAG-COM person nearby they could do the same.

MPM :)

Thanks for the response, i have tried the ignition whilst pressing the reset and just as it did before christmas, it says "service now" ......i just hope the idiots at Merrits havent caused the car any longterm problems with their poor advice....

The procedure to bring up the service in xxxxxx miles indicator is to fasten your seatbelt, turn the igniton on but don't crank the engine and then hold down the odo reset button, it will then show a spanner and xxxxx miles to service.

The most important thing here is to turn the ignition on first, before touching the odo reset button.

If you hold the reset button down before turning on the ignition the Service Now indicator will come up and this is the mode for resetting the service indicator and switching over to 10,000 miles fixed services.

If you get the service now indicator, turn the ignition off straight away and everything should be fine and you will stay on variable servicing. Under no circumstances twist the clock adust knob or press any buttons as you may inadvertantly switch it onto fixed servicing.

Yes, it does work, maybe it does need a service........;)

Ok, finally got this to work and the cars telling me it requires a service in approx 4985 miles or 440 days...that would make it about 25000 miles since last service if i leave it that long....spoke to Progress Skoda Bedford and they say it definately needs a service NOW, so booked in for Wednesday :-)

Thanks for the advice all !

  • 4 months later...
