VRS vs ST170

Featured Replies

Ok this is all theoretical - I'm tied to a Fabia VRS for 4 years due to finance, and I'm well pleased with it

But I do miss the awesome handling of my old Focus zetec. Now how would a Focus ST170 have compared performance-wise with the Fabia VRS, aside from handling! Got more bhp but considerably less torque - think the VRS feels quicker in everyday driving?

I'm just worried what I will want in 4 years time, I'm already getting the remap urge on the VRS hahaha!

ST170 is quicker in everyway... minus when you have to pull over for fuel

It handles better, and is faster all out.

In gear obv the vRS is faster, but the ST170 owner wont short shift just so you can win.

Remap a vRS and it will be quicker in a straight line than a ST170

It is one of 'those' threads.

It happened

The ST170 is a capable car, will out-handle and out-perform a Fabia vRS :)

My Fabia is faster than......walking.

Assume you dont drive in rush hour traffic then matey

With Colies and a Remap a ST170 is no problem but standard for standard the ST 170 will leave a vrs

in a straight line maybe (and under certain circumstances probably) but not anywhere else tbh - my Ibiza is meant to handle better than a vRS and it doesn't feel anything like as planted or composed as my Zetec did, let alone an ST170. I can't see cheap coilovers making up the difference

My Spec is as below Guys Heres my honest story

My mate is a very compotent driver he owns an st 170 modified( bigger brakes exhuast induction etc) i have my fabia. We were at a hot hatch day at knock hill and i passed him twice in two different sessions coming out of the hairpin. and he couldnt catch me until my warm down lap. know im not the best driver ever but quite competent however when we have a blast on a private road he usually pulls around 4 cars on me through a series of back roads in aberdeenshire!!!!!!!

:)

both driven balls out and properly the fabia will never be quicker with just a map and coilovers except in gear acceleation where it will absolutely kill the st170. if you have never driven a decent focus do not think they are just another hatchback, very very good cars.

I've driven a couple of ST170s. The handling as with any Focus is cracking. Never driven a modified one, so imagine what a set of coilies and strut braces would do for it?

But... I find my remapped Fabia feels quicker. I drove a Clio 182 Trophy, supposedly modified to 200bhp (unproven but receipts 4 work) and because all the power is locked away at the top of the rev range it really didn't do a lot most of the time.

So to drive these high revving petrols quickly you're gonna be doing 10mpg. Whereas to drive the Fabia quickly you'll be getting high 30s mpg.

Sorry to tell, but he wasn't trying/didn't have the car in the right gear to accelerate out of the hair pin :)

my willy is bigger than every1's

:D

Lock the thread lol

Babs u werent there! we are both decent drivers he is probaly more so than me and will openilly admit i over took him and there was nothing he could do about it..

I really dont understand some peoples point of view on here until you have been up against one who would you be able to tell FFS .. I have nothing to lie about and certainly couldnt care less with the mines faster than yours crap !!!!!!!!

Babs is always like that, he hates anything to do with diesels especially the Fabia vRS :-) Just check his post history. Just take anythig he says about the Fabia with a grain of salt :-D

Even a re-mapped one will struggle against a st170. :P

The only way to beat one hands down is to hybrid.

trust me i speak from experiance.

Now neither of them will out handle my s40 sport :P  And i would probably beat both in a straight line too

i hear this a lot,but i am a uselss driver ,but i very rarely get passed on track my fabia handles better than my impreza by a lot,how does one explain this? And all it has on now is a cheap set of coilovers and a atb diff, sureley with just these items it can't alter handling that dramatically can it?surely out of all the imprezas on my last blyton day one of the drivers at least must have been trying and could drive better than me(well most could drive better than me,they jus didn't have the car under them:rofl:)

Lol - People forget I've owned a Fabia vRS :)

Hated the diesel so sold it after 9 months and bought a real vRS!

Had a quick look on AutoTrader... ST170s are getting cheap now.

both mk 1 fabia and mk 1 octavia are real vrs's,the octy 2 is the faker having never been used in wrc:D

my mate has a st170, when i drove it, it didnt FEEL much quicker, but is in real terms. However, another mate with a mapped vrs pulls on him a little so quite close.

That's the thing with the derv, it will feel quicker as you've more low down torque, but if the ST is 'on-cam' then there shouldn't be any way the vRS can keep up.

A mapped vRS will have the same BHP and more torque so should beat it :)

If you can find it in a search, there's a post on here from a long time ago that says the ST170 is so slow that its underpowered

but the implication was standard against standard, and let's not forget how mavis pulled your pants down at traxx...:P besides, your's isn't just a vRS with a remap and a set of cheapo coilovers bolted on

Babs your such a Tool. You have a condition know to many as (Verbal Diarieah) in common terms your mouth is full of ****e! now go get some kleenex and wipe your chops if you have nothing useful to add to the form DO ONE!!!!

A lot of people new to the Fabia vRS will say it feels a lot faster than a lot of things, and it does (I know, I've owned one).

However, it won't actually be any quicker than a properly driven ST170, for example.

Gary's vRS is far from standard, and very quick.

But we're comparing standard here, and a standard ST170 should be a lot quicker in all areas than a standard Fabia vRS, unless the driver of the ST170 is in the wrong gear. It handles better, and has more power, but where the Fabia gains is the massive torque spike low down the rev range, meaning it has "instant" acceleration, whereas the driver of the naturally aspirated petrol has to work it some more.

:)

And on that note......................Say good night folks.

If you want too carry this on, I'm sure theres a Focus forum out there in the internetz.
