Skoda Superb and Road Angel Plus

Featured Replies

Picked up a new (to me) Superb I at the weekend.. Am finding that the Road Angel Plus.. (the rechargeable one) sitting dead centre on the dashboard on a circular magnetic mount only seems to work (as in pick up a signal ) after about 45 minutes of driving.... must be something to do with the glass temperature..? (They do state that they dont work with heated or u/v reflective windscreens but as far as I know the Superb just has a 'normal' screen...). Anyone else have experience with this... as in does it need an extenal aerial..? Thanks..

I have a normal Road Angel and it works fine in the centre of the dash on a windscreen mount. takes about 3 to 4 minutes to work - after not using for a while.

Thanks John... this one is taking a good 45 minutes to start up... (used to be fairly instant in a Vectra)

I can confirm that a Superb screen does work with standard GPS chipsets - my Origin B2's antenna was sat on my dash, worked no worries.

A 45-min cold start is a concern though - have you tried running a firmware update?

It was fine on my Vectra dashboard driving down to Beadles to pick the Superb up on Friday... switched it on in the Skoda and it cannot find a satellite... so it sits there on the dash for a good half an hour then suddenly springs into life with the mileage etc etc.. Was wondering whether any guys here were running them with external anntenae..

Hmm, that said, despite my Origin running with its antenna on the dash, it was still external to the unit - and these have a tendancy to be a little better than an integrated.

For the cost of a GPS antenna, it's worth a punt though - I'd stick it on the parcel shelf personally.

mmm.. I think its a little more serious.... it dont seem to wanna work when the main unit (the Bluespot satnav) is turned on... but off, it seems to be behaving...

Do these units interfere with each other... ( oo'er...)...?

gps devices dont like to be next to each other, remember this from the days i had a tomtom and road angel next to each other. i found having one on the right and one in the centre of the vehicle sorted it.

I have SatNav and it don't interfere with mine. The Road Angel is above the SatNav on a windscreen mount - dead centre of the screen?

Hmm, that's an odd one. Not something I've come across personally or professionally, I'm sorry to say.

The Road Angel sits on a magnetic disk on the top of the dashboard top dead centre in front of the vents, i.e the air vent is behind the Road Angel.. ( as it did on the Vectra.) .. for some reason it just dont want to 'fire up...'

have you tried the road angel in the right corner? if it works in the right corner then we can narrow it down to the windscreen. and have you tried it with just the road angel on?

I have tried it outside the car - works 100%

On the right hand side/left hand side of the screen - its not working

It seems to make no difference the sat nav being on or off....(that according to Road Angel and Nav Now should not be a problem)

So I think its a screen problem.. (are windscreens more transparent to receiving GPS signals the warmer it is... ( hence why it works after 40 mins or so..)).. and an external aerial jobbie (Road Angel totally necessary as car cruises so nicely at 35 mph...:)) so have ordered one from Messrs Road Angel...

I presume I havent got a heated screen in the car.... so many buttons..:D

Will see if that cures it..:)
