Fabia VRS Engine Management Light

Featured Replies

 Hello first post and looking for help!

Fabia VRS SE bought new June 2007, so still under warranty, 15400 miles.

The car, all the regular problems, leaking doors, the stutter (95% cured with 9mm gasket, thank you Briskoda) and the problem ---- the engine management light.

Been in the garage 3 times for this, first remedy, garage reset the management unit and little else. Lasted about 1 week. Remedy 2, Vacuum unit, bit with the 6 spider hoses, replaced. One of the hoses had melted, reacted with plastic bend from fuel filter union, fixed for 2 weeks, light back on.

Remedy 3, replacement EGR valve and air mass meter. This has fixed problem for about 1500 miles ---- light now back on. Since replacement of EGR valve car has only been filled with Shell V power diesel. Getting a bit  now. Car does short runs 2 and from work but gets a good blast at weekend. Nice suggestions much appreciated!!

Do you have any other symptoms? I suffered from a CEL last Summer that took ages to diagnose, but turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor. There weren't any other symptoms (even the gauge worked OK), and there were no fault codes recorded when the CEL was on. It took the lateral thought to do a scan when the CEL was off to find the fault, as the ECU was recording an occasional 'pending' (incipient) fault. Thing is, the ECU needs two or three pending faults on consecutive startups to throw a fault, but until the fault's cleared or expires, it stays on. Now, I'm not saying it's the CTS, but it's definitely something to bear in mind in terms of doing a scan when the CEL is off!

PS: You may want to post this query in the Fabia I section too...

Hi

Many thanks for that.

There are no other symptoms, gauges read as they should and car runs fine even when light is on.

My son has owned a couple of A3's both the 1.9 & 2.0 diesel and he gave up with the problem and ignored light, but thats maybe the benefit of a company car!!!
