Just my layman explanation.....

....overboost is where you get a "little extra" for a brief time.....I think the original idea is to give you a "boost" when overtaking.

However from experience is just heightens the experience of acceleration ( ).

Some remapped 1.8T have the overboost characteristic tuned such that is give a real kick during acceleration but under conditions wher you accelerate through and come off the accelerator at the point of overboost you either get a "dip" or a slight "jolt" in delivery.

The "dip " is caused by passing the overboost phase and boost returning to normal levels and the "jolt" is where you go back into the overboost phase so go from normal boost to increased boost.

Overboost can be tuned down or up.

NOTE: All my ususal disclaimers apply. ;)

Should this be experienced by modded cars only, mine standard and it sounds like what I experience.

yes, that's sounds like my problem too. But mine is modded now but swear i felt it a few times before my car was remapped.

Overboost does come into play on a standard car.

Also overboost can be the result of a fault like a split hose. If overboost is recognised by the engine ECU for an extended period it will shut the system down into limp home. The reason a split hose or similar causes overboost is the sealed boost system suddenly goes to atmoshpheric pressure and for a brief moment tries to boost atmostphere, this then shuts down.

Also overboost can be caused by a sticking VNT turbo unit/actuator, but ive not seen that on a Skoda as yet.
