Things to look for on a 80k vrs

Featured Replies

Am thinkin of buyin a mk1 octavia vrs that is local. Its a private sale. Car has done 79,000 miles, had a cam belt & water pump done, new clutch 2. 4 new ignition coils. Its suppose to been repapped by evolution. Got a Decat & blueflame exhaust & a Splitter DV. Anything to look out for on higher mileage models ? Or anything needing changed soon?

Should be good to go.

Do check for a metallic pinging noise over bumps from front. Known problem with the front arb, not massively expensive but not cheap either (£100-200).

Also nice bit of tread on tyres ;)

Just buy it and enjoy, mine is pretty much the same spec as that and coming up to 140k now!!!!!! still sweet as a nut!!!

went a drive in it, bit rough when cold. Drives smooth tho. Had a remap from evolution and when u hit 80mph the traction control turns its self off ?? Also Splitter dv makes a odd noise at idle like the springs gone? askin 4k

Mine had 75500 miles on it when I bought it and all it needed was arb bushes. Everything else was spot on. As for the Splitter DV making a noise at idle, it proberbly needs adjusting and they are a bit tricky to get set right. I used to have one but I could never get it just quite right so I got it changed to a 007p.

I'd also check to see that the wheel bearings are ok as mine went @ 75k (both fronts) and have seen others do the same at a similar mileage.

Bought mine with 89k on the clock and the gearbox linkage bushes needed to be replaced. The front ARB and bushes needed replacing at just over 100k miles.

Thats the mileage I have on mine now. As above, check wheel bearings, arb bushes, wishbone bushes, but none of these is too pricey. Hesitation when cold is common, cleaning the throttle body should help. It will probably need new spark plugs at 80k

4k is quite a bit for an octy at the moment, although it has a few mods which should save you some money, the rough when cold bit is most probably 1.) the secondary air pump, which always runs from cold for about 40seconds, i think its for warming the cat up or it acts like a choke. 2.) there is a pipe thats referred to as the "y" section on here which is a common split, think its about £26 to replace, the pipe sits under then engine cover (i think, on the right hand side) ill try and find you a pic

does anyone have any ideas about the traction control switching its self off at about 80mph then wont come back on till you turn the ignition off? Its only happend since the ECU got sent off to Evolution for a remap

Sounds fubar to me, I would get a Vag com scan on it.

Also sounds like it could be expensive, I'd look at another
